The Ouija Debate

Saturday May 19, 2007
There's an ongoing debate about the powers and realities of the Ouija board. Essentially, there are three basic positions:
• It is inherently dangerous, can open portals to evil entities and should never be used.
• It is only dangerous if used with evil intent, but can be a useful tool for spirit mediumship if used properly and with good intent.
• It is inherently harmless and has no real powers of mediumship for good or evil; its effects, if any, are only psychological in nature.

Which is true?

I used one once when I was a teenager so that was just over 20 some years ago. We were trying to contact my sister who died in 1978 and it never did anything until I told them my sister’s name was Tammy and then it went to the T and then A and I took my hand off it and said this is a bunch of bull. I believe nothing good can come from it if you believe in a spiritual realm or not.

(3) Anthony North says:

The Ouija board can be dangerous whether involving a real supernatural power or simple psychology. Like a gun, it is not the board itself that causes the problem, but the intent, or state of mind, of the users.
If you know what you are doing, then no problem. If you are simply dabbling, with no knowledge of what you do, problems could arise.
This is one area where sceptics could be making things worse. Their outright denial and ridicule does not allow the psychological elements involved to be properly covered in the main media.
One final point, I’ve noticed that the information provided during such sessions always tends to be known by someone in the group. Does the board somehow tap a group psychology?

I agree with you on “Like a gun, it is not the board itself that causes the problem, but the intent, or state of mind, of the users.” but i dont agree at all with “If you know what you are doing, then no problem. If you are simply dabbling, with no knowledge of what you do, problems could arise.”

haha! that was funny “some guy”. anyway, i believe if you open that doorway to the next realm that there’s always the possibility for evil to come through. who is the devil but the “father of all lies”, so of course his demons are all about deceitfulness. they can mimic a departed loved one, play nice in the beginning to achieve their OWN purposes in the end, so yeah, i think knowledgeable or not, anyone’s at risk! i’m a christian who had been entangled in things that only God had the power to deliver me out of, so i feel it takes Him to help you out of something that’s bigger than you.

(7) Dana says:

I’ve been using a Ouji board for over a month now, and nothing bad has happened. I am fourteen, and have asked some seriously stupid questins, but i’ve also been serious. The ouji board is safe as long as you do a prayer before, and after, and if you ask if they are from the sun or moon. Don’t insult the spirit, and never ask for a sign that they’re there! Just be careful, and look things up on the internet. If you’re careful, there is practically never any danger. I could go over all the safety rules, but if you think logically you’ll be just fine. Always say, and scroll over goodbye!!!

I’m also a christian., and am a counselor at my bible camp, so don’t think it’s evil!

(9) Rachel says:

I come from a Christian home. My folks had no idea what my cousin was doing with us, while they were gone. They hired her to babysit. But we’d ask the Quija board questions, such as how many people died in this house. The answer would come back 7, they were murdered and burned up in the coal burning furnace. That furnace was huge and blazed. We never thought of asking it who was it. I was a kid and just thought everyone else was probably the one pushing it. But I started having terrifying nightmares. The kind where I was frozen from the fear. Too afraid to pull my covers up on me. I’d just lay there shaking and freezing. That’s how I’d go back to sleep too. Soon as my folks found out, we couldn’t play with it anymore and my cousin no longer watched us. But afterwards, our family came under heavy spiritual warfare. We had no idea we should renounce what we did, which was asking Satan to come in to our house, through that so called game. Trust me, never ever ever allow your children to use this board. I won’t call it a game, cause it’s not. You may not believe in God, but without Jesus Christ, our family wouldn’t of stayed together all these years. I praise the Lord for his mercy and love.

(10) Pyro says:

I think that if the Ouija board works at all, it does not purely work with evil, just like it doesn’t not purely work with good.

I don’t know if either can be influenced in terms of state of mind, but if there are spirits out there and communication was possible, it makes sense both good and bad exist. The only question that comes into play for me at this point, is whether or not I want to take the risk.

I have used them when I was a dumb kid I guess for the most part it was just for kicks but a lot weird stuff went on kind of bad stuff it for sure is no game. I know I will never buy one again I’ll also never let one in my house.

you mess with the otherside to much they try to control you.

I’m certain that this so called game is a outlet for evil spirits to channel into you. It might appear harmless but thats the whole idea. Like the drug LSD…. it takes you out of reality as we know it & into a unknown world. Trust me … I have seen the devil or his messenger , I even talked to him. I’m not crazy, so afraid I called upon the Lord to help me. Then everything seemed to rewind…. I was back in reality as we know it.
