For all of us paranormal junkies who mourned when
The X-Files left the air, I hope you've been watching
Fringe (Tuesday nights on Fox). It's a worthy successor to
The X-Files; in fact, after watching this first season I'd say
Fringe is every bit as good as
The X-Files. It's well-written, features good acting and is tinged with just the right amount of humor. Of course it can be chilling, suspenseful and unnerving, too, and handles its paranormal subject matter with intelligence. Whereas the "something out there" on
The X-Files was an alien presence, on
Fringe it's a mysterious corporation called Massive Dynamics, which apparently is into all kinds of weird experimentation for unknown, nefarious purposes. The show was created by J.J. Abrams, who directed the newest
Star Trek movie, so it's a cool surprise that he is bringing Leonard Nimoy onto
Fringe as William Bell, head of Massive Dynamics. It should be great fun. I highly recommend this show.

Actually, the plot so far has led to the conclusion that the “out there” is even more “out there” — interdimensional (whatever that’s supposed to mean) rather than interplanetary.
Although I missed the first few episodes, I’ve caught up. It’s a worthy successor to the X-Files and The Night Stalker, from the 70’s. I am glad this series was renewed.
