Demon faces

another student demon face

This past week's news featured an article about a competition in New Zealand that sought the country's best ghost photos. One of the entries that was featured in the article, and which I posted along with my blog (see the blog entry below), was allegedly submitted by some college students. (You can view the photo here.) It shows two students close together with a strange, demonic-looking face peeking from between them. Of course, the students said they could not account for the face and couldn't imagine how it appears in the photo. Scary, right?

I always consider such photos with a very skeptical eye, since it's so easy to create fakes, but featured it because it was interesting and was part of an article of interest to readers. Then today in my e-mail I received another photo from someone using the name misfit88. It, too, shows two college-age girls in a pose quite similar to the New Zealand photo and, yes, with a very similar-looking demonic face between them. About it, misfit88 said only, "My classmates came with this scary photo of two posing girls and some floating head of demon-like creature behind them... I recently saw similar photo on your page, so I've decided to send you this picture, cause I've got it in my PC for a few months." You can see the full-size photo here.

Naturally, two such strikingly similar photos set off the alarms. No, I don't think real demons are making themselves known in creepy photos around the world. To me this is clear evidence of fakery, possibly created by the same person or people. Sometimes we see such things popping up as a prelude to some new horror film coming out. Or someone's just having fun at the expense of those willing to be fooled.

Photo One: My eyes, and view, is that it’s the girl on the right’s hair. As you can see, her head is tilted to the right, onto the head of the other girl. Her hair is pulled up into a ponytail, that you can see at the top in between their two heads. If her hair is long enough to cascade down her neck over her shoulder, this is a good explanation for it. I see it as hair, causing paradolia.

Second photo, unsure.

When two (or more) people are posed so close together, anything in the background, seen in the space between the two subjects, would be seen as something potentially “otherworldly”. I have to agree with paraguru’s take on the first photo. In addition, the pixelization in the photo does nothing but assist in the illusion. The second photo looks almost like someone purposely trying to be scary behind the subjects and peek through.
If you notice there’s one distinct difference between the two photos. In the first photo you can see beneath the “demon head” to the grass, giving the “head” a creepy, floating effect. In the second picture, they are both wearing black and are closer together at the bottom of the photo than the girls in the first photo. It also genuinely appears that there is something more behind them but it does not look paranormal to me. Looks like someone or something was set up there. Just my opinion. I think the first photo may be a genuine case of mistaken identity (of hair, as it were) the second may be a deliberate hoax.

The first photo I felt nothing. The second photo made me physically ill immediately. Why?

To me neither picture looks demonic. It just looks like two faces in bad makeup.

In the first picture I don’t think it is the girl’s hair, the one has shoulder length straight hair and the other hase very dark hair. Not sure what that one is.

The second one looks like a picture of an evil face of some sort is being held up behind them. It definitely looks like it was drawn it does not look real.

These pics are bogus. I have worked with photoshop for a long time, and could produce a better looking HOAX than even these two… come on guys.
