Video: Unknown Lifeform in North Carolina Sewer

Tuesday June 30, 2009
What on earth -- or below the earth, rather -- are these things? A "snakecam" was sent down into the sewer system of a North Carolina town and videotaped these weird lifeforms that have yet to be identified. They look like something out of a science fiction movie. Watch the video.

Watch and then leave your comments below.

Christine — no, it’s not. You can see the segmentation and texture of the sewer pipe as well as the running water in it.

(6) Mike B says:

Bryozoans are tiny colonial animals that generally build stony skeletons of calcium carbonate, superficially similar to coral (although some species lack any calcification in the colony and instead have a mucilaginous structure). Members of the Phylum bryozoa are known as “moss animals” or “moss animacules” (which is the literal translation of the Greek term βρυόζωα, “bryózoa”) or as “sea mats”. They generally prefer warm, tropical waters, but are known to occur worldwide. They’ve also been observed to exist in sewer systems, examples being Denver and North Carolina. There are about 8,000 living species, with several times that number of fossil forms known.

bryozoan, search the web. it excists more than 5000 species both in fresh and salt water, but how they got in the sewer I dont know. Thats the only thing to find out about this.

(28) Lord Magnus says:

Look at the video markers entered by the plumbing technicians. 6″ cp means 6″ nominal I.D. of pipe, cp mean Clay Pipe, up till the late 60’s allot of places used either cement lined or clay or terracotta pipe for sewage, you can see in the video the mortar that oozed in at one joint segment. As for bryozoans, maybe but did you notice that those things moved, backed up a little when the snake’s head light aimed at them? I’ve never heard of a bryozoan colony being able to flex and bend suddenly.
