Monolith discovered on Mars?

Mars monolith

This photo of a mysterious object on the surface of Mars was snapped by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. It appears to show a free-standing geometric block of undetermined height. It immediately brings to mind, of course, the alien-created monolith from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. But is this object artificial? A scientist from the Univeristy of Arizona is quoted as saying, "In reality it's more likely that this boulder has been created by breaking away from the bedrock to create a rectangular-shaped feature." If so, where is the bedrock from which it has been broken? Where is the stone that fractured off to create this shape? The object seems to be standing quite on its own on a plain of soil. We cannot say it is an artificial creation, of course, but we can add it to the growing list of peculiar Martian anomalies. Read more here.

It would seem to me that someone who could tell how far the shadow extends away from the object and the position of the sun at the time would be able to measure how tall the object is. It appears to be fairly tall though. The linked article says it’s just a boulder and makes it seem like such boulders can be found on earth, yet I don’t think I’ve ever seen a natural boulder that looked like that in such a random spot on earth, and the article doesn’t provide a picture of one either. It kind of reminds me of the Mars “tower”, which is alleged to be nearly 4 miles high (http://www.geocities.com/marsunearthed/tower/tower.html).

Whatever it is, it certainly appears to be artificial judging by the shape and random location.

It reminds me somewhat of the Bowder stone, Jeff.

This monolith was moved by the actions of glaciation during the ice age, but similar processes could have existed on Mars at some time during its history.

I see what you’re saying. But the stone on Mars appears to be so much smoother and flatter and rectangular. It may just be because we’re looking at it from so far away though. It would be a lot better if they could get a closer picture of it, preferably one from a rover on the ground.

lizzzyy — There seem to be some striking differences in the earth boulder you linked to and the Mars object. The earth boulder is just one of many boulders in the area — you can see a few of them even in this small photo. The Mars object seems to be standing quite alone. Also, the earth boulder looks like a boulder. The Mars object does not. (Is there a similar stand-alone object like this on Earth?) The Mars object apparently stands quite tall and rather straight, as if it was planted there purposefully. I’m not claiming it was, mind you, but it is rather peculiar.

You guys should really check out a man named David Wilcock he shares some wonderful insights about the world and even about mars. If you have around 40 minutes of free time and are willing to watch a video of him check this out.

Just remember to keep an open mind to the information.

Yes Paranormal, the boulder I linked to is in a pile of other rocks, but the interesting thing is that they are not ‘related’ to the huge boulder, it has travelled a couple of hundred miles from it’s origin. Also, rocks on Earth weather and cover with lichen etc so they look more normal to our eyes. My point is that this Mars rock could have moved slowly over millennia and could point to unknown physical processes. It’s so intriguing, I do hope for a closer look at some point.

Yes, it looks quite creepy. My father used to say, “Mother nature never makes things with straight lines.” In the very least, it calls for more of a look-see. If I could get a picture with more pixels, I’d run it through Adobe. Adjusting only for color and brightness/contrast. It seems that NASA never heard of the simple processes that don’t change the image but only change the light- much like adjusting the brightness/contrast/color on your TVset. I did that with the “Woman on Mars” photo last year, and it is plain to see that it is a statue on a pedistal, reaching out with a hand. Where can I get a larger image of the mars cube to work with?

Stephen – I somewhat agree with you about the mysterious object on the surface of Mars. Appearing the be a free-standing geometric block of undetermined height.

I believe it can easily be explain as a space rock falling and is embedded in the surface facing upwards.

In 1989 the Russians observed a large monolith scape object about Mars moon Photos. Link http://www.watchonepiecepoint.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Moon-Mars-Russia-News.jpg
