There's an ongoing debate about the powers and realities of the Ouija board. Essentially, there are three basic positions:
• It is inherently dangerous, can open portals to evil entities and should never be used.
• It is only dangerous if used with evil intent, but can be a useful tool for spirit mediumship if used properly and with good intent.
• It is inherently harmless and has no real powers of mediumship for good or evil; its effects, if any, are only psychological in nature.

I used one once when I was a teenager so that was just over 20 some years ago. We were trying to contact my sister who died in 1978 and it never did anything until I told them my sister’s name was Tammy and then it went to the T and then A and I took my hand off it and said this is a bunch of bull. I believe nothing good can come from it if you believe in a spiritual realm or not.
your kinding right they donlt work try a simple test have people use quea board then blind fold then and turn board up side down and have then use it and see what happens
The Ouija board can be dangerous whether involving a real supernatural power or simple psychology. Like a gun, it is not the board itself that causes the problem, but the intent, or state of mind, of the users.
If you know what you are doing, then no problem. If you are simply dabbling, with no knowledge of what you do, problems could arise.
This is one area where sceptics could be making things worse. Their outright denial and ridicule does not allow the psychological elements involved to be properly covered in the main media.
One final point, I’ve noticed that the information provided during such sessions always tends to be known by someone in the group. Does the board somehow tap a group psychology?
I agree with you on “Like a gun, it is not the board itself that causes the problem, but the intent, or state of mind, of the users.” but i dont agree at all with “If you know what you are doing, then no problem. If you are simply dabbling, with no knowledge of what you do, problems could arise.”
I think Ben agrees with you.
haha! that was funny “some guy”. anyway, i believe if you open that doorway to the next realm that there’s always the possibility for evil to come through. who is the devil but the “father of all lies”, so of course his demons are all about deceitfulness. they can mimic a departed loved one, play nice in the beginning to achieve their OWN purposes in the end, so yeah, i think knowledgeable or not, anyone’s at risk! i’m a christian who had been entangled in things that only God had the power to deliver me out of, so i feel it takes Him to help you out of something that’s bigger than you.
I’ve been using a Ouji board for over a month now, and nothing bad has happened. I am fourteen, and have asked some seriously stupid questins, but i’ve also been serious. The ouji board is safe as long as you do a prayer before, and after, and if you ask if they are from the sun or moon. Don’t insult the spirit, and never ask for a sign that they’re there! Just be careful, and look things up on the internet. If you’re careful, there is practically never any danger. I could go over all the safety rules, but if you think logically you’ll be just fine. Always say, and scroll over goodbye!!!
I’m also a christian., and am a counselor at my bible camp, so don’t think it’s evil!
I come from a Christian home. My folks had no idea what my cousin was doing with us, while they were gone. They hired her to babysit. But we’d ask the Quija board questions, such as how many people died in this house. The answer would come back 7, they were murdered and burned up in the coal burning furnace. That furnace was huge and blazed. We never thought of asking it who was it. I was a kid and just thought everyone else was probably the one pushing it. But I started having terrifying nightmares. The kind where I was frozen from the fear. Too afraid to pull my covers up on me. I’d just lay there shaking and freezing. That’s how I’d go back to sleep too. Soon as my folks found out, we couldn’t play with it anymore and my cousin no longer watched us. But afterwards, our family came under heavy spiritual warfare. We had no idea we should renounce what we did, which was asking Satan to come in to our house, through that so called game. Trust me, never ever ever allow your children to use this board. I won’t call it a game, cause it’s not. You may not believe in God, but without Jesus Christ, our family wouldn’t of stayed together all these years. I praise the Lord for his mercy and love.
I think that if the Ouija board works at all, it does not purely work with evil, just like it doesn’t not purely work with good.
I don’t know if either can be influenced in terms of state of mind, but if there are spirits out there and communication was possible, it makes sense both good and bad exist. The only question that comes into play for me at this point, is whether or not I want to take the risk.
I have used them when I was a dumb kid I guess for the most part it was just for kicks but a lot weird stuff went on kind of bad stuff it for sure is no game. I know I will never buy one again I’ll also never let one in my house.
you mess with the otherside to much they try to control you.
I’m certain that this so called game is a outlet for evil spirits to channel into you. It might appear harmless but thats the whole idea. Like the drug LSD…. it takes you out of reality as we know it & into a unknown world. Trust me … I have seen the devil or his messenger , I even talked to him. I’m not crazy, so afraid I called upon the Lord to help me. Then everything seemed to rewind…. I was back in reality as we know it.
My friends and I played with a board when we were younger. It was unique.I have numerous photos of my daughters friend with our Ouija board. There are hundreds of orbs around her, some of which look like they are coming out of the board!! I also have a photo of, what appears to be, a little ghost girl. Everyone who has seen the photos are in amazement!
Hey earth0angel… Pics or it didn’t happen.
Pics can be doctored. I would only accept pictures if they came straight from a film camera and straight from the devolopers who are too busy to even look at them let alone put colourful little balls of light or a ghost.

STAY AWAY FROM THOSE BOARDS… THEY ARE JUST PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH YOUR LIFE.
Again, the ouija board. We’ve known better and we’ve been told to leave it alone. Good advice. There remains a class of people who are still gonna do it. You can’t stop them. Don’t get too excited over it.
On the Pagan/Wicca about.com site, this also came up in a discussion. Patti described using the board as being in an internet chat room, you don’t know who is really talking to you, and you don’t know who you might be inviting in.
When I was a kid, one of my relatives brought a board over on a visit. I wouldn’t go near it. It totally creeped me out, and they still do.
It’s funny you should mention that your relatives’ Ouija board creeped you out. When I was about 6 years old, my sister and I were looking in a closet when I found a Ouija board. For some reason, I felt weird vibes from it. Now, it could have been that my mom had warned us not to use it. Nonetheless, the feeling was so strong that I vowed never to use one. A few years later, some of my friends convinced me to use a Ouija board. Luckily, nothing happened. I was, however, incredibly freaked out and even felt guilty afterwards, as if I had disrespected the dead.
I, with my family, communicated many times with the ouija board nearly forty years ago and all the answers to my questions came true. But funnily enough all the answers to my brother’s questions never came true! I didn’t believe in it at the time but my brother did. I still find all this strange today. But I firmly believe in it. We did have a few spooky moments when the coffee table elevated on occasions and the candles blew out! I haven’t used the ouija board since. But for me, it’s not a lot of rubbish at all.
y r a lot of u banging on about god and religion? wot has this got 2 do with the ouija. i have my own board and nothing bad has happened 2 me. found out my friend was pregnant by a message on the board, so they do work
When I was in college I liked to use the Ouija board for fun. I’d just pretend I was talking to spirits, but when I got on it with a friend next door, she freaked out when it said she would die when she was 21, in a car accident. I thought it was stupid to ask it when you were going to die and even dumber to believe it enough to freak out about it. She kept saying it must be right because by the time she was 21 she would probably get her first new car. She couldn’t be consoled or reasoned with and went on for days about it. I saw her walking around 10 yrs ago which made her about 48 years old. So, I too think a person’s state of mind is an important consideration when thinking about using the Ouija board. Wish I had thought about that back then.
Ouija boards only make contact with demons there are no spirits of loved ones floating around. theses spirits are called familiars if you ever educate your self with the real occult or Jewish mysticism. the only thing that comes from Ouija boards is opening your self up for demons and torment. this is why this game is made. if you ask why would they make a game like that? you have no clue about whats really going on the world just like most the people in this world do not.
OuiJa boards is always an interesting topic to speak about, and a topic that everyone seems to have an opinion on.
I can only talk about my own experiences, I have been a skeptic all my life and did not believe in the spiritual world. However, certain events challanged my views including experiences on OuiJa boards.
I always conduct a controlled experiment once we have made contact, by asking someone else to hold a number of fingers up behind my back and asking the spirit how many fingers are being held up – it is amazing at the amount of times the correct answer happens.
I cannot explain this but I know for certain that the people who attend are genuine, honest and very open minded…
If you do not believe and have a closed mind then of course, it will not happen. Be honest, if you are a spirit, why would you try to convince people who are not interested..
People who believe in such things are naïve to no end. You are the types who thinks John Edward (the medium, not the adulterous senator) will talk to the dead for you, hire plumbers who work as ghost hunters at night because you hear squeeks in the floor and are now using your friend’s computer because you gave your’s away along with the rest of your posessions and money because you thought the rapture was going to happen on May 21st. It’s a piece of carboard with a plastic pointer and you and your friends are subconsiously pushing it to answers you already know or want to know: “Are you in heaven?” *Pointer moves to <YES*. “Do you know a man named ‘Ian’?” *Pointer moves to <NO, *pointer moves to <L…A…R…R…Y. “Ah, yeah, I know him… he’s dead!”
Wake up — there are no monsters under your bed, no ghosts in your old house with a tragic history, and spirits or demons posing as your dead aunt aren’t going to contact you regardless of what you buy at Toys `R Us. It is a century old marketing gimmick like mediums, faith healers, snake oil, crystal balls and tarot cards and an example of many fundamentalist scapegoats.
