It's not every day that archaeologists discover remnants of an unknown civilization, but that is exactly what is being uncovered at Gobekli Tepe, Turkey. The structures and artifacts have been dated to be about 12,000 years old! That's older than the great Egyptian pyramids, Sumeria -- even Stonehenge.
Unearthed so far are 10-ton T-shaped columns in a ring, an artificially constructed hill (the interior of which remains a mystery), carvings of mysterious animals, exquisitely carved columns that look like modern art, the hauntingly enigmatic Urfa Man (pictured), and more.
Since 1994, only about 5 percent of the site has been excavated, so who knows what treasures and wonders are buried there. Why is this all so astonishing? Because it pre-dates Mesopotamia , the so-called "cradle of civilization," by thousands of years. This site re-writes history. See Linda Moulton Howe's 3-part article and photos at Earthfiles.com.

After studying megalithic ruins for more than twenty years, I have come to believe that the earlier humans came from the remnants of a post-apocalyptic civilization, and that we are only now beginning to return to a semblance of our previous abilities. I believe humans are capable of so much more than just barely surviving under a malevolent group of dictators who think of us only in terms of our “productivity,” as though we were livestock. Of course, the trolls will have a field day with this, because “this entire site was built with primitive stone axes and copper tools,” even though tests will prove the architecture is equal to or more sophisticated than anything we can create with our machines today.
We are and have been since the beginning of our conceptual time, test subjects. Like in our barbaric sport culture, a continuation of Roman sport, if a player is no longer permitted to continue with the game for any reason, he is immediately replaced. From what science, and many Historians agree, this rock traveling in the universe seems to have a habit of transforming itself, and possibly even restoring itself to a once again pristine environment through immense upheavals of lands and seas. Seems about every 2600 years or so the Eye of Creation looks down to see a damaged planet, and reacts in displeasure. This planet is crusted in the layered history of Age after Age. The sad tale is that the goal of this universe is to unite all living things back to an Adam concept.
One mind, one soul, one purpose. We are given time ( our concept ) and the guidance available at request upon recognizing a larger picture than what you see in a mirror. As single individuals, we are totally expendable, as a whole we need to be all of one mind. Separating the mankind provided disease of ego, and the realization of spirit and a soul is a neverending process Harvest time happens, about every 2600 years. Age after Age we are prewarned, but mostly to no avail. Many of us are spiritual souls with the mission of escorting those in peril to potential enlightenment and physical release. Soon as a physical entity, life will cease.
I watched a special on this last night on National Geographic (I think). It had moments of simplification, but it was interesting, and showed how these structures (and there are multiple structures, and some structures not yet uncovered that are even older) were created during the hunter-gatherer period, not the later agrarian period, which shifts some established beliefs. (I love when new discoveries mess with established beliefs.)
I always thought it ridiculous that it was believed that true organized religion did not start until agrarian culture arose. It’s obvious there were spiritual beliefs among our very ancient ancestors, and even the few hunter-gatherer cultures remaining have holy places, not just objects.
Very well said, no matter how many discoveries there is of different and ancient civilizations, there was always God, Many different name but i believe it was always the same one just that it was named differently, Yewah, Jehova,Llavé…..they all the same, hard headed skeptics of God, may be forgiven!
Perhaps this was a zoo with the types of animals on display carved on the entrances to their cages. It could also be an animal market similar to our livestock auctions. There do not appear to be kitchens, bedrooms, fireplaces or other indications that humans actually lived in the area that has been excavated thus far. Perhaps this was an extremely large city, like Los Angeles, that separated zoos and other educational and/or recreational centers from housing, religious and business areas.
