Results of Remote Viewing Experiment #3

By , About.com GuideJuly 29, 2012

Follow me on:

Paul Knorr autochrome

The results are in! Last week I asked readers to remote view a picture I scanned from a book and taped to my office wall. I received a lot of very interesting results for this experiment, but only one came close enough to be declared a winner.

That's the target picture above: an early 20th century autochrome by Paul Knorr.

Read all of the results and join me in congratulating the winner. Thanks to all who gave it a try, and let me know how you think we might be able to improve our results next time.

yup, no one got that one right, not even close. But it is what it is.

“I keep picturing an old Victorian era farming scene… with a farm and a pond on the top left of the picture… and there’s a farmer and a horse with one of those old school plowers… and I see trees around also…”

1. They’re not wearing Victorian-era clothes.

2. Just because there are cows doesn’t mean it’s a farm.

3. Looks more like a river, not a pond and it’s on the right side of the screen.

4. No farmer, no horse and no plow.

5. There are trees.

I wouldn’t call “And I see trees around also” a successful remote viewing. Everything else she said was dead wrong.

Visara — I am the first to admit that the experiment was not successful and that the “winning” entry was far from accurate. However, the elements she mentions are similar to the target picture. And I think you might not understand how psychic images might be received. They are rarely as clear as seeing a picture; rather, they can be just fleeting images or even feelings. There might be just the “feeling” of a farm, and if a person saw fleeting images of horses or cows, they could make the assumption of a farm. If they get the impression of water, they might say “river” or “pond.” It’s not cut-and-dried. Hopefully, we’ll be able to come up with some ideas to try to make our experiment more successful.

If a bunch of random people guessed a bunch of random things, of course someone is going to get “close” to the subject matter of the photograph. That’s the law of averages at work. I’d be much more impressed if someone actually got details correct, or at least the scene in general and not vague ideas that “sort-of” apply.

I meant to send in mine and never got around to it. What I saw was a woman in old fashioned clothes with a white cloth wrapped around her head. I figured it was one of those old seance/spiritualist pictures. Which makes me wonder if we aren’t picking up bits of what you are seeing and then our minds build a picture around the vague bits we get mentally. I was surprised when I saw the actual picture because I could definitely see the correlation between the girl standing next to the cows and what I saw mentally.

I do think picking one particular time to have all of us concentrate on it will help like you did in the last one.

Thank you for doing another remote viewing experiment. This is the first time I participated, and I wasn’t even close :)

I agree with the other comment that you viewing the item at a particular time might be helpful.

I also thought of another idea. Perhaps you could place the item in a room that’s not used as much as your office. I’m thinking a closet or somehting similar. Describe the room to us, and then at particular times through the day, you can go view the item- or at least concentrate on it.

I think if the item is in a room or area that isn’t used daily, then maybe some of the viewers will pick up on the specific details of the item more clearly.

Obviously, I’m not one of those talented viewers, since my description was so far off :) But I will participate again, and yes, please do another experiment some time soon!

I think Stacy’s ideas are excellent!

nihil, i agree, with enough attempts someone will have some elements of the picture in the description. The more attempts the closer it will be given the law of averages. Visara laid it out nicely, it’s a stretch to say thhis was close or that the feel was similar. But I’m glad paranormal got something that was unique and there was NOTHING wrong with the results.

another great mystery is why Stephen calls himself paranormal instead of Stephen. Maybe in the about.com users manual?

Maybe he actually is paranormal and he only exists if we believe in him? :P

maybe Paranormal is him and his wife or daughter

Here’s the thing I am thinking, is there any elements of anyone’s post taking place in your Office?

I didn’t enter this experiment because any time I tried to think about the picture all I saw was something silver colored in rectangle shape. I thought maybe it was a waterfall but it didn’t seem to be moving. Seems maybe I just picked up on the type of film that had been used and was just seeing a chome colored rectangle. LOL

Anyway I think you had better sucess with the first experiment when it was a real object, not just a picture. The last 2 experiments have been pictures and no one seemed to do very well with seeing them.

I liked the suggestion made about putting the item somewhere besides your office. Also maybe some times when you could hold the item and think about it. I like these sort of experiments and kudos to the ones that practice more and are able to pick up better on viewing far off objects.

The human mind can do a lot of wonderful things if we would only let it.

I just saw this article today and tried viewing the image this were the only things stuck in my mind:

1. The picture is bout kids and I saw colors
2. The picture is from the older times
3. People are dressed up differently

At second try after few minutes:
I was seeing image of native american kids dressed up in the traditional clothes holding some sticks/spheres in their hands and the image was black and white.

I think my first attempt was more closer, now after seeing the actual image here.
