Our modern versions of them have largely been crafted by popular literature and, more influentially, the movies. But like many fantastic characters of myth and lore, they have a basis in reality. Sometimes the true stories of these creatures that haunt our imaginations are just as weird and amazing as their fictional incarnations.

Can we please stop lumping witches in the same group as monsters and other make-believe creatures? My sister and I are fourth generation witches (my son makes the fifth generation) and we’re all pretty darned believably real live things!
On the other hand, if some people prefer to believe that witches do not exist, does this mean can I stop believing in Republicans? And if I refuse to accept their existence, will they fade away??

Elaine, you sound like a 13 year old girl spouting foolish nonsense. There is no way you can be a fourth generation witch. Wicca as a religion wasn’t created until the 1930s and didn’t become known until the 1960s. It is a new religion.

Carol, Im sorry but that is pure ignorance. I am also a witch, in NO WAY am I pagan or Wiccan (in fact I find the Wiccan religion to be annoying). I follow Stregheria which began in Italy hundreds of years ago. In fact, you have to be italian or related to an italian to be accepted into their society. Most of the witches today are decendants of ones who followed the Etruscan religion who society died off but was carried on my other cultures. They existed in 1000 B.C.. So please do your reseach and know what you are spouting off about before you put others down for their beliefs. I know Stregas are not fake because I am one.
A “witch” is as “real” as a ghost. If you think you’re a witch, so be it. You have no powers. You have no reason to be. You are delusional.
