Reader Report: Friend's Dream Farewell

By February 25, 2013

Follow me on:

"This happened January, 2013 in Fayetteville, North Carolina," reports Jeannie. "I had a dream about a long-time friend. In the dream he was driving a delivery truck and seemed very old and sad, even though he's only mid-forties. He stopped his truck and gave me a bag of donuts, of all things... then gave me a ball of 100 dollar bills. I tried to give the money back, but he told me keep it, that he didn't need it anymore. Then he told me to take care of myself and family. The next morning I woke up and received a call saying he had killed himself the night before."

Are our dreams doorways to other worlds, psychic connections, and special knowledge? Can spirits communicate with us in our dreams? Those, like Jeannie, who have had powerful premonition dreams or message dreams, are convinced that this state of sleep makes our minds open to realities we do not yet understand. Here are some other examples of death dreams and premonitions:

I had a similar dream once. Nothing serious like death though. My father in law had asked to borrow my jeep the night before. That night I dreamt that I looked out my window (it was morning in the dream) and saw coming up the driveway with my sister in law’s car. I asked him why he did not use the jeep, and he told me there was an oil leak that needed fixing.

Lo and behold when I woke up and looked out the window there was my father in law driving up with my sister in law’s car!! He told me that oil was leaking from my jeep and he couldn’t use it that morning!!!

I’ve had several precognitive dreams in my life, dating to when I was a child. These dreams have frequently (but not always) involved the death of a close friend or family member but these dreams frequently include other scenarios as well – though it seems as though most of these kinds of dreams happened when I was in high school or younger. One involved being surprised at a relatively poor grade I received on an assignment which I thought would have been graded better. In the dream, I received the exact grade that I got the next day on that assignment. Another very vivid dream included my best friend (in high school) telling me she thought she was pregnant. That dream became a reality down to what she was wearing, where we were sitting and the song that was playing on the radio.

It seems as though I don’t have these dreams nearly as often now that I’m older. Perhaps the turmoil of my youth, including the usual teenage angst, made me more receptive to these?

When I was in grade school I would have moments when a friend would be saying something to me in the hallway and I would stop and tell her that she already told me that and that she was wearing the exact same clothing. This happened frequently but as I grew older they didn’t happen as often. There is a belief that time is a fabric and that it can be manipulated and changed. I t hink sometimes we’ve already lived this life and, in living it again, in order to change the outcome or learn from our mistakes, and (especially young people ) who have not had the problems and complications that would interfere with experiencing these things. It’s almost like a fast forward or rewind of the events in our lives.
