New Photo - Café Phantom

Thursday April 17, 2008
"These are four pictures I took in quick succession at a café near my house," writes Jodie. "I'm a photographer and was taking pictures for artistic purposes when I captured these. But I do not remember anyone or anything walking or otherwise passing past the lens. After consulting a couple of other photographers, I have yet to come up with an explanation. It was noted that the motion blur on the figure suggests movement to the right though the figure went left. There also appear to be features suggesting a face in the third frame. We concluded that the figure, whatever it is, seems to be twisting – fast and continuously - in a counter-clockwise direction and that it covered about 8 or 9 feet of space doing this in 1.8 seconds." See the complete sequence of photos and many more photos in the Gallery.

Can these be displayed separately rather than as the sequence?

You can extract these frames yourself, using for example irfanview, a freeware program.

I do not believe this is a ghost, but a person moving betwen the tables.

I am also a photographer, with extensive experience in low-light scenarios. The realtively long shutter speed (1/4 sec.) combined with the backlit subject (ambient daylight coming from the cafe window) would easily account for the blurred image of a quickly-moving, thin female (note suggestion of skirt line at knees).

Why would someone be moving so quickly in a cafe? Since she seems to be moving away from teh door, I’ll say she is heading for the loo!

This is not a ghost, its a shadow being,or shadow people, its so creepy, also i notice that it seems very tall, thats one of the most common characteristics attributed to the shadow people by witnesses.Just my opinion.

ITS A WAITRESS

I agree, looks like a waitress looking around quickly at tables for plates that she can take away. She’s wearing a regular coffeefreak 1940’s or 60’s style dress.

Well, the photographer estimates the speed at about 8.5 feet in 1.8 seconds. Converted to miles per hour, this is 3.22 mph. Average walking speed is 3 to 3.5 mph. So this is probably just someone walking past the camera. Very spooky looking pics though.

Hoax. Even if you’re a real photographer, why would you be taking 4 quick shots of the same exact location which happens to be a coffee shop with random people chatting?

I believe you took these pictures for the sole purpose of adding the ‘ghost’ and manipulating the pictures, then came up with the excuse of being a photographer so no one would wonder why you’re taking pictures in a coffee shop where nothing exciting is happening.

(10) Shaun Kelly says:

In defense of photographers, especially student photographers, I will point out that quite a few pictures of “boring” cafes and shops are taken every day, in an attempt to “capture the essence of real life”, or some such. Making the mundane interesting is one goal of the photographer’s art.

And while it is certainly possible that the shutterbug here is making a hoax, I choose to believe this was an innocent mistake by an inexperienced photographer.

(11) Director J. Burkhart says:

After having individually conducted photo analyses while cross referencing all four frames I can only conclude that either your captures are the byproduct of over exposure, or that of some non human element.

A non human element with light refraction capability. What resulted through my processing technique demonstrated an object which had seemed capable of distorting a field of physical space around it at an accelerated velocity well beyond normal human detection.

Regarding natural human response characteristics, I found it interesting how the two individuals on the left side of your images, one which was sitting at a table closest to the photographer, did not move towards the table as might be expected by someone passing near.

And the other person sitting up at the bar, had actually moved back in the direction of the figure as it had past behind him, where both had acted contrary to what might normally be expected when someone was passing by them closely.

Well, at least under normal polite situations.

Why such a ‘doubting thomas?’
This photographer lucked out, and captured a phenominal image of an earth-bound spirit.
The whirling dirvish is no hoax!
Someone in that room is open to the paranormal - (I’m banking on the woman photog.) and the spirit came through.
I’m reading that it may be a relative passing through.
Why do you all jump to conclusions that every picture is a fake?
This girl just got lucky - and she’s a sensitive….(ever see sixth sense?)Why be so negative, give the girl her due!!

Have You Checked out the cafe’s history? If It is a Ghost, You might find some corroberation there. A shadow being is a ghost as well incidentally. Something to do with the energy frequency upon which the entity or entities resonate. I think it’s a cool capture!
