Reader Question: Prophetic Dreams

Saturday April 26, 2008
"I have had several prophetic dreams," writes Tessa D. "One of a child drowning in a swimming pool... and the next day the same house in my dream was on the news and a child had drowned there. Another of a plane going down, but no one killed... and again I saw it on the news that a plane had had to make an emergency landing. In all of the dreams, I am in them. I am not sure what to make of these experiences. I was once told that I had a very strong pulsating third eye, but I haven't attempted to develop this and am not even sure how. Any information or contacts you can give me would be appreciated. I am a Christian and so I am a little confused and leery of what to make of this or what to do about it."

One of the best things you can do if you believe you are having prophetic dreams -- or premonitions of any kind -- is to document them. Write them down in detail and date them. Keep a journal. See if the premonitions come to pass, and with documentation you can prove it. There is even an online database for this purpose: Central Premonitions Registry.

I’ve had them all my life also. I usually call them a deja vu moment. And for the past 8 years, I’ve kept a journal as Stephen suggests. Some of the things I’ve recorded have clear outcomes. Some, even after it’s all said and done, leave me wondering.

I’m also a Christian and there’s something called a word of knowledge, something we know through the Holy Spirit. I believe that’s what’s happening to you. But as to exactly why you and what you are to do with this information, my only suggestion is to really spend some time reading your Bible and praying for direction.

I’ve also had moments of déjà vu from time to time. Unfortunately, I don’t recall that any of them involved any significant event… but each time these events occurred, the moment would seem very surreal as if the realization of its passing would come to mind and I would then remember that I’d actually dreamed of it beforehand.

However, I do not think déjà vu is restricted to persons of religious upbringing or piety, as I myself have never been religious on any serious level. For me it would seem to be more of a deeper psychological function of the mind that remains unlearned of by modern sciences.

With that… I would also like to point out that I have never (and still don’t) smoke, drink, or use any substances that would alter my mental state in any way, so self-induced incidents of déjà vu have not been a result of personal fault… they just happen, whether or not I realize or bother to think of it.

Good points, Sam. I wonder sometimes if we don’t dream our entire life in our sleep but forget when we awake. And those deja vu moments are actually glimpses of our dream. Some of my deja vu moments have been completely insignificant while others, very remarkable. Hard to tell.

And no, I don’t think deja vu moments are related to Christianity or any other religion other than it seems to be a gift some people have. And since the creator places the gifts in us, it may be he can give the best advice on what they mean and what to do with them.

(5) BRUCE THOMPWON says:

GOD SAID IN THE LAST DAYS HE WILL POUR OUT HIS SPIRIT ON ALL FLESH EVEN ON NON-CHRISTIANS ASK GOD WHAT HE YOU TO DO WITH IT. YOU HAVE A GIFT FROM GOD. PRAY TO THE FATHER FOR YOUR ANSWERS.
