Something
in the House
by Elona T.
I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, as a child we moved to a house on Franklin Blvd. The street once known as Millionaire Row. We lived in a four-bedroom Victorian house. My mother was the first to experience a presence there - almost like someone telling her to do the right things in her life. She used to tell us all about them.
As a child I always felt watched in this house. Something was trying to communicate with me. We had pets - 2 cats - and I was told that they can feel a spirit, and even see them. These pets used to run around the house, then suddenly stop, as if they ran into something standing in the room. There was no odor or sign of anything in that spot. Yet they treated it as if there was something there. One of my cats would claw her way into my closet at night, face the back wall of the closet and yowl loudly. I always had to have the door to the closet closed.
I began to hear my name at about the age of 10. While sitting in my room, I could hear someone clearly calling me - sometimes so clearly that I would yell down to my mother to see if it was she who called me. When she would respond that no one called me, I became frightened and felt I had to be with someone, and I usually left my room quickly. My brother feared our attic. When he was younger, he and a friend went up there at night wanting a game. They ran down fast screaming there was someone up there.
Maybe it was being a child, but nothing can explain what happened to me at around the age of 13. One evening my parents had gone to visit a friend of theirs. My older brother was spending the night at a friend's, along with my younger brother. I was home alone, not for the first time, but something was different about that night. While watching TV, I could feel, and even see a movement from the corner of my eye. While sitting on the couch, the TV suddenly went dead... the lights remained on. So I just assumed that the TV was broken. I went to turn on the radio; I got static, then it too went dead. I suddenly became aware of something in the room with me. Although it was Summer, I began to freeze; whether it was due to fright or if I was actually feeling the presence of someone, I will never know.
I began to panic. Once again feeling the need to be with someone. I got on the phone and called my parents. The static on the phone was bad, and my mother could hardly tell it was me. I began screaming for her to come home, that I was terrified. She said she would be home as soon as possible. Fifteen minutes before my mother turned into the drive, the TV and radio came on, and instantly I felt a pressure leave me.
In another instance, in my room, I awoke one night to a feeling of being watched. I was so frightened that i didn't want to move, and remained that way for several hours. I have felt many things in that house, and to this day feel uncomfortable. Another unexplainable occurrence was with my younger brother, at a young age he began having epileptic seizures. He would moan loudly and shake so badly. My parents had many tests run, and nothing was found. They never determined epilepsy either. When I would ask my brother what he saw or what he felt at the time of the seizures, he said it felt like someone had him and wanted to hurt him. The first time I saw his seizure, it looked like someone was shaking him - not like any epilepsy, but more like someone was picking him up off the bed and shaking him. This lasted for a few months, then suddenly stopped. He has not had an episode since. With the nightmares I had in that house and the feelings of something there, I feel this house is haunted. The house was built in 1935, and I believe my parents are the third owners.
