Cowboy
Ghosts
by Storm
We recently moved into a home across the country from were we're normally from - to Kansas from New Hampshire. We moved into a home that was originally owned by the same family for 60 years. The daughter, which is an older lady and her husband still live in this town. However, her mother and father lived in this home until their deaths. The father died in our living room, about five or six years ago and the mother died two years ago, but she went to a nursing home here in town and died there. Since we have moved into the house, many strange things have happened.
We were watching TV one night and my key ring that I keep on a deep hook next to the door fell off and crashed to the floor. We've had books fly - literally fly off the book shelf and land from in front of the bookshelf to the opposite end of the room. We have seen shapes many times, which I will describe later. Often, when I am doing dishes in the kitchen, the cupboard door will open and a few moments later close. You can actually hear the click of the door. We keep food in this cabinet, and my husband has come to the idea that they are just looking to see what food we keep in there. We hear many noises in the night, and when we go to check, there is nothing there, although we have seen "them" occasionally.
The most amusing part of all this, is that my husband is a collector of PEZ dispensers. He has them displayed in our dining room, in a few different ways. On one of these displays the PEZ are constantly arranged, it doesn't matter whether it's been day or night. But they are almost always rearranged the same way over and over again, as if "they" are enjoying playing with them, or perhaps just think they look better displayed differently. We can't explain it, but it's constant. A few times, I have seen a female - it's hard to say shape, because the features were obvious - but it was a dark shape, around my husband. One night, she was hovering over him. Most of the activity seems to be in our bedroom, for that is where we see these "things" most often.
My husband has seen a man a few times. A really scary thing was he saw a man in an old cowboy hat looking down at me while I slept. Then another night this same man came into our room, walked to his side of the bed and just looked down. One night there was a really load "ruckus" going on outside. It was late in the night, there were sounds of old time horse and carriage, gunshots. Then all was quiet. (We live within feet of the Santa Fe trail.) We later found out after investigating that the area our house now occupies was a horse livery stable. So we think perhaps this man in the cowboy hat comes to see his horse, that may have been where our bedroom now sits. Another strange thing that we found out, is that the man that owned this house and died in it, was very picky about his home and the land around it. And if you have ever been to Kansas it's very windy. And our neighbors always have wayward garbage floating around. However, in most cases, our land stays clean. While others in neighboring areas, after strong wind storms have damage. We seem to be spared. Although I hate to say that and tempt fate. I pray that will stay the same.
So we have to wonder if this family is still protecting their land. We have a very active home, and we've really grown accustomed to living with our "other family". But sometimes when my husband is working late and I'm home alone and the cupboards open and shut, and there are noises in our bedroom. I admit I get the kids and leave the house. I get pretty scared sometimes. But my husband, well, when I wake him up for a noise, he just says yep the ghosts are pretty active tonight, go to sleep. I guess he's braver than I am... or I'd say more stupid, but he's reading this right now.
