Startling Premonitions
by Robert H.

I was only 10 years old, the youngest of seven. The year was 1976. I woke up about 4 a.m. on a school day with HORRIBLE stomach pains and I went upstairs to the bathroom thinking I was going to "hurl" my guts out. What I succeeded in doing was locking myself in the bathroom and I passed out on the tiled floor. Unbeknownst to me, a few minutes later, my mother received a phone call from my eldest sister Linda who lived about 40 miles away. Linda was frantic and my half-sleeping mother said Linda was adamant that there was "something wrong" with one of the boys. (My brother Richard and I were the only kids still living at home.) My mother assured Linda that Richard and I were still in bed, but that she'd check on us to assuage her irrational fears. When my mother saw that I was NOT in bed, she searched the house and tried the bathroom door, which was locked and I would not answer. Neither she nor my brother had the strength to break it down. They called another brother (who lived a few blocks away) and woke him up to come and break the door down. They broke down the door to find me still unconscious on the bathroom floor. My brother carried my passed out carcass to the car and my mother drove me to the emergency room where it was discovered that my appendix had burst during the night. Had my sister NOT called and had I laid on that floor for several more hours, I very well could have died from the infection spreading throughout my innards. Thank GOD she called! My sister does not know WHY she had that feeling about me being in trouble or why she felt compelled to call my mother, she just KNEW she had to. She had NEVER made a call like that before or since but my sister and I have always had a special bond and we always will. I love her and believe that there is a special link between us, no matter the distance or passage of time.

Okay, if that one was weird, this one is downright BIZARRE! I don't know how to explain it. I've had many premonitions/dreams come true, but this one was a bit beyond simple second sight...

I was 16 years old. The year was 1981. I drove my brand-new '81 Dodge Omni 024 to a movie with my friend Brett, and on the way back home, we drove on the road I lived on that follows along the river, called River Road. We were about two miles from my house and (at a corresponding bend in the river) coming around a gradual corner, I felt what I can only describe as a horrible feeling of dread. In my mind flashed the images of a body laying there decomposing along the riverbank. I came to the opposite end of the corner and the guardrail and without my own conscious effort, I hit the brakes and turned the car around and started heading back in the other direction.

My friend grabbed the dash and yelled, "What the hell are you doing?" I said, "I don't know." At that moment I literally was NOT in control of my own actions. I knew that I was physically doing this, but I could NOT explain WHY??!! The car proceeded to the other end of the guardrail and I whipped the car around again and headed back in the direction of home. I was shaking so and had to stop the car and peer over the guardrail to make sure that there WASN'T a body laying there. There was nothing. After trying to leave but turning around one more time, I told my friend that something TRULY WEIRD was going on and please could HE drive, which he did without further incident, calling me "whacko" the rest of the way home.

The very next day, I was at my girlfriend's house when another friend, Dave called us and asked if we'd like to go with him to the undulating hills of the local "Roller Coaster" Road and test out his recently acquired, mint green 1970 Chevelle. I really didn't want to go there since the ONLY way to get there was by way of River Road. I told my girlfriend to go if she wished, which she did. I stayed at my girlfriend's house recounting to her mother the story of what happened to me and Brett on River Road the previous day and how strange it was. About 15 minutes later, the phone rang. It was Dave and my girlfriend. They were in an accident on River Road and needed a ride home. We rushed down there to see the right side of the car was completely torn off as they were speeding, had missed making THAT same corner and hit THAT same guardrail.

Thankfully, neither of them were seriously injured, and my girlfriend was NOT hurt because she and Dave discovered a week before that they liked each other and so she was snuggled close to him on the driver's side of the car. If I had ridden with them, I would have sat on the far right passenger's side of the vehicle that was now literally completely gone and I would have been that body I envisioned laying lifeless on the riverbank.
