A Haunting
by Ann Davis

In may of 2001, after four years of searching for the perfect home, we found our dream home at a market price of more than $40,000 less than others like it in the area. Of course, it needed alot of tender love and care. The house had sat empty for three years and had been through numerous owners. After a new septic system, new floors, new walls, and a fresh coat of paint, it is the house I want to spend the rest of my life in. The house sits in the middle of two small, year-round flowing creeks, and the rear of the property is adjacent to our local wildlife reserve, so we are surrounded by nature. I live where most people pay to go for vacation.

During our early construction efforts, the small incidents never gave us any indication as to what was truly dwelling here - little things like laying a hammer beside you on the floor and turning to look at something then reaching right back for it and see it eight feet across from you on the floor. Or having it vanish all together only to find it later in the frig or top of a cabinet neither of us had been in. Still we dismissed all of these as human error. The electrical wiring was and is a constant battle. There was one item remaining in the house that must have belonged to a previous owner, it was a miniature grandfather clock, only about 18 inches tall. We set the clock, our very first night in our newly completed home. Ever since that first night, we are often startled awake at 2:10 a.m. by banging sounds, and from the very first night that clock stops at 2:10 a.m. every night. We took it to a shop to have it repaired, three different times with the same report every time, that there is nothing wrong with the clock. However, to this day it still stops at the same time every night.

On into our second year here, often times I would hear water running and find the nozzle on in the bathroom sink. I have come home to find this numerous times after being at work all day. By the third year in our home, I began to feel like someone was behind me while I was cooking dinner or doing laundry. Once I even felt a tap on my shoulder while running the sweeper and turned to see no one there. Last summer we started seeing something like the tail end of a shadow as it went across the center of the room and into the wall. On four different occasions, different rooms have taken on a brilliant flood of color. I woke my husband one night too scared to move out of the bed because our entire bedroom was flooded in red light. Another time the living room was flooded in blue, like a blue hazy light. And recently we have began to notice something resembling spotlights going around the inside of our bedroom in the middle of the night, even with our door shut and no windows uncovered to access any light.

Often there is a strong sense of agitation and restlessness in the house that takes on such a stifling sense that I cannot breathe inside the house. It feels like all of the sudden I am in an invisible plastic bag. I am always finding knick knacks turned sideways on my shelves.

The experiences my husband and myself have had are not each on a daily basis; however, I would say they are fairly frequent at 4-5 times per week. And my dog sees something all the time; sometimes she will bark, and her hair will stand up and she will really look scared; other times she appears to be watching something that I cannot see, moving through the house and through a wall or closed door. I still love my home, and hate the thought of leaving; however, just in these four years things seem to be getting progressively worse, and sometimes I am scared to death.

Just as food for thought, when we took this house I owned and operated a thriving business in my small town, drove a brand new car , my husband had a secure position with a 30-year-old company and we were stress-free. Since that time, my business had a huge number of unexplainable setbacks: flooding sewers, electrical shorts, natural gas leaks, delivery problems, plate glass windows falling out, illness among staff, along with many other things that eventually caused me to close the doors. Six weeks after I closed the store, my husband and I were rear-endeed while sitting at a stop light by a lady with no insurance, incurred numerous hospital bills and cost us more money to sue only to find out she had nothing to pay with at all. My husband's company went out of business without any warning and without their pensions or retirement.

Let me conclude by saying I realize that anyone can come up with 400 logical reasons for most of this stuff, and I have investigated each and every one. I do not think our "spirits" have caused any of our work-related issues, but I do think that bad karma plays a huge roll in the way our luck is going. I have recently began looking into information regarding the paranormal and trying to find a way to bring some positive energies into our lives to help overccome the negative forces we are currently victims of.
