Mexican Monster
by Chris

This incident happened before I had the capacity to retain thought, circa 1990 when I was three years of age. Despite the fact that I was too young to remember what happened, my mother had kept the memory fresh in my mind every time that we would get on the subject (which was practically once a a month, since it took place during an eventful family vacation).

My parents, my one aunt and one uncle and I, of course, were on our way to visit my grandparents who lived in the heart of Chihuahua, Mexico in a small (when I say say small, I mean it) town called Tres Castillos. The drive over there, according to my mother, went well until we began to leave the Sierra Madre mountain range and enter a vast land of rolling hills and cattle grazing grounds. That's when she said she saw "it."

The creature resembled a dog, but with one enormous difference: it was about the size of the Cadillac that we were in, height-wise. It's paws were large and padded like a mountain lion's and it had a razor back adorned with thick black hair that she said looked matted down, possibly from blood. It had large, glistening incisors that hung from its mouth, and the area around the mouth and neck region was caked in saliva. My mother caught site of it lumbering in the opposite direction that she was driving about a couple of minutes before the creature caught site of our speeding automobile. It was simply walking on the side of the vacant road toward the Sierra Madre mountain range. It never attempted to commandeer our car - basically, it took little to no interest in our presence. However, the sight of it terrified my mother and burned the image of its ugly profile in her mind as she passed it. Their eyes locked for a second, and that was enough to complete the horrific picture.

What was it? Don't ask me. My mother claims that it was the fabled Chupacabra and my grandparents agree upon hearing its description. The Sierra Madre is a gigantic mountain range with some regions still not yet explored, and with that in mind I have no doubt about the truth of her story.
