The
Incorporeal Being
by Chela
Before I begin with the narration, let me tell you something about myself. I was born 47 years ago in the Philippines to Catholic parents and I grew up in the city of Manila. When I was 25 years old, I migrated to Germany and got married to a young German musician. Our marriage had been harmonious at the beginning, but then problems came one by one, not to mention the language and cultural barrier. Our problems continued through the years until it reached the summit of our unhappiness in 1993. Although I was suffering so much, I didn't have the strength to leave my husband because of the children. Until early 1995 when a turning point came into my life. I met a man who I thought was the answer to all my unhappiness. But I was wrong. Let me tell you now my story which changed my life, and our life.
This happened after Christmas, 12 days before the coming of the New Millennium. That night, it was very cold and as I was feeling a bit sober, I decided to go to bed ahead of my husband. As usual, my husband went to bed at 11.00 p.m. We sleep on a waterbed whose depth is approximately 45 cm. It was around 3.00 a.m. in the morning when this occurred. I was sleeping, and I must have been dreaming (for I could still recall some part of the dream ) when I was jolted from my deep slumber. When I wake up suddenly in the middle of the night, it usually means that I have had a bad dream, a sound has awakened me, or I became cold because my bed sheet has fallen on the floor. I always sleep on the right side of the bed, usually always with my back turned away from my husband. Having been shaken from my sleep, the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was the dark, shadowy contour of a human being from the waist down, right in front of me, just a few centimeters away from my bed. I fixed my eyes on this strange vision, and then after a few seconds had passed, I noticed in the dark a pair of thighs and a waist kneeling before me. How strange that the apparition was, bathed in subdued light, glowing as if it had a light of its own, while in the room itself was very dark.
At this point, I didn't know if I was only dreaming or imagining things when I sensed that a manifestation was taking place. There was something in front me, something that I thought was a shirt hanging loosely in the air, but then realized there is no way a shirt could hang there. What is this I am seeing? Am I imagining things? In a split second, the outline of shoulders, of the limbs, of the head, and of the hands, which were clasped as if in prayer, had materialized from out of nowhere. Fear overcame my whole being. Slightly illuminated from the waist up to the head, the head hardly visible to my eyes, the apparition was definitely taking the form of a man.
It was the apparition of a man, judging from the dimensions of the body. Horrified as I was, I began observing the incorporeal being intensively, glinting my eyes from the head, down to the right shoulder up to the right arm and onward to the left arm and shoulder and back to the head again. At length, I began asking myself who this strange visitor could be. Is this an out-of-body phenomena, or is this my deceased father warning me of an impending danger? Has my dead father-in-law risen from the grave to warn me of the dangerous steps I have taken, or could this be an angel disguised as a man wanting to give light to my life?
During the whole time, while I was trying to figure out who it was and what the presence wanted to convey me, I felt an inexplicable sadness emanating from the presence. I knew, based on my keen perception, that it had something to do with the supernatural, but my rational mind said that it was just all my imagination. Stricken with horror rising in crescendo, even then I was determined to know the identity of my visitor. I started gazing again from the head, down to the right shoulder up to the right arm straight to the left arm. Before I could reached the left elbow, a blinding light struck my eyes, revealing, in all clarity, not only a human arm, but also the colour of the shirt that the incorporeal being was wearing.
Unprepared for such a sight, I instinctively closed my eyes. When I opened them again, darkness engulfed me. There was no trace of the kneeling figure before me, no trace of that light which so suddenly had struck me and made me numb. There was only me and the darkness.
Conclusion: After this fateful encounter, I know that there are higher beings around us at work, good and evil. I have gathered some opinions regarding the difference among ghosts, angels, spirits and other supernatural beings. I have come to the conclusion that whoever it was who had visited me that night did not want to frighten me but only wanted to help me straighten up our lives.
