Ghost
Party Guest

In 1970, my cousin Daphne and my uncle David graduated from high school in Athens, Ohio during the same year. A cookout was held to celebrate graduation. Two pretty popular kids, a girl and a guy, whose names I cannot remember, were expected at the cookout, but hadn't arrived yet. Finally, just the guy did show up. My cousin Daphne and some other people at the party approached him. They said they were glad he finally made and suggested he get something to eat. They said he looked very serious and that he just quietly said no, he couldn't stay. They milled about and didn't see him again afterward. His arrival had occurred at 3:30 p.m. on that day. Later that evening, the graduating class learned that the guy (who showed up) and the girl had been killed in an automobile accident on the way to the cookout. What they had seen, who they had seen, couldn't have really been there, at least not among the living.
