Staring into the Vortex
by Ben Erion
This happened January 2005 in the home I live in now in Ottawa, Canada. I was 15 and was surfing the Internet. My parents were out shopping in Chinatown (my mom is from Thailand) to get more rice and coconut water. I was home alone on a boring Saturday morning looking for stories about supernatural stories. They were amusing, well written and supposedly true (I believe now). I stumbled upon information about vortexes and portals. I read the information and saw the obviously fake photos (Photoshop; really amateur work), but it was interesting.
I heard a small crash from the basement and decided to check it out. I've been hearing those crashes and bumps a lot lately, but after awhile thought little of them. This crash was different though; it was louder and made a sound that resembled something falling and hitting the floor. The sound was... well, the only way to describe it is something hitting the floor more hollow than possible. It is very hard to imagine, I know.
When I looked down the stairs into the basement, I saw a sort of whirlpool of light. Brilliant colors, unimaginable ones, constantly moving inward. I instinctively wanted to scream and run but... it was so amazing and comforting, but nearly as frightening as the great devil himself both at once. The most I could do was take a step back. It almost felt as if I wasn't in solid reality anymore. Almost as if time was nothing. It then, quite suddenly, for no reason I could think up, it disappeared. After that I returned to reality. I got back my sense of time, and I stood frozen in place for about half an hour. I put myself in solitude for about four days.
