Draped in Shadows
by Clarion

I was visiting my friend Bethany in London, England during the summer of 2004. My flight arrived very late at Heathrow. I was extremely tired from not sleeping during the flight due to the fact the child seated behind me on the plane made enough noise to wake the dead. Bethany offered me the guest room at her parents' house. I didn't want to impose on her, especially with her parents away. We both decided that a hostel would be best until her parents returned from the house they were renting for the weekend in Dover.

She woke me up when we arrived to this hostel she knew about. I was informed she had gone and made the arrangements. She also made some comments about me sleeping like a baby. The woman that ran the place was a stern woman in her mid-fifties. Her name was Mrs. Shipman, I believe. She told me she wanted no foolishness or any trouble where it was late at night.

I settled down to bed finally some time after three. I kept hearing a sound in the hallway. I got up to check it out. The resident cat was going insane. I never in my life seen an animal hiss and growl aggressively at nothing. I noticed that it was cold in the hallway. Very cold. I thought one of the guests left an outside door open. Halfway down the hallway I saw what looked like a person walking toward me. I thought it was another one of the guests. When it stepped into the light put out by the night light that was in the hallway, I saw this "thing," for lack of a better term. It looked like a woman dressed fully in black. It was like she was draped in shadows. The light from the night light didn't even show on her. What scared me the most was the feeling I got from it. It was like pure hatred and rage. It was capable of hurting someone.

I don't even remember going back to my room. They found me on the floor in my room screaming my head off. They called Bethany to come get me. I don't what it was, nor do I want to know. The rest of my vacation went well, thankfully. I plan on returning to London for another vacation next time I can afford it.
