Cat from the Future
by Bap

It was a rainy Saturday afternoon in March, 1976. I was 14 years old and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. My parents had gone shopping, and I was home with my dog, who was snoozing at the foot of my bed. I was lying on the bed, reading a magazine when I suddenly heard a loud meow. I glanced up and saw a beautiful black cat with bright yellow eyes sitting by my desk. My first thought was, "How in the heck did a cat get here?" All the doors and windows were shut tight. There was absolutely no way a cat was capable of sneaking into the house. Then I freaked out, afraid my dog would lunge at the cat and chaos would ensue. But my dog was sound asleep. Now that was weird because my dog was always totally aware of her surroundings and her sight and hearing were as sharp as a tack. If there was a cat in the house, my dog would go bonkers!

I got up off the bed and approached the cat with the intention of picking it up and putting it outside. But it literally vanished into thin air! I figured it ran downstairs, so I spent the next five or so minutes searching the house. But the cat was nowhere to be seen or heard. I went back to my room, lay down on the bed and continued reading my magazine. The meowing started up again, and I gazed around the room, but couldn't see the cat. The meowing was coming from the desk, then it moved to the dresser, then to the closet and then to my stereo. The meowing lasted a good few minutes and I couldn't understand why my dog was completely oblivious to what was going on. I woke her up and asked her if she heard the kitty, but all she did was lick my hand, wag her tail and go back to sleep.

Several years later, my dog died and shortly thereafter a friend gave me a black cat as a birthday present. He found it sitting in the middle of his living room the night before. He had no idea how the cat got there, as the apartment complex he lived in did not allow pets. Strangely enough, this cat looked exactly like the cat that had visited me all those years ago. I will never forget what that cat looked like. What's even more bizarre is that this cat was extremely talkative and possessed a meow that sounded the same as the one that visited me that rainy Saturday afternoon. I will never forget that meow either. It was very unique and distinctive. The similarities between the cats were uncanny.

At any rate, the cat turned into a wonderful pet. We were together for ten years and were very attached to each other. I often wonder if he was the ghost cat I saw and heard years earlier. Perhaps he had come to say hello from a future dimension!
