My Sister's Ghost
by Anton

My sister, who is now 33, was so grief-stricken by the death of her favorite aunt many years ago that she had always prayed that she could see her aunt again and would even ask her to come visit her sometime. One morning in the 1980s, her wish came true when she woke up to see the form of a woman sitting beside her bed, watching her. She was frozen in fear because she was not sure what it was at the time, and then the form dematerialized. I was told this story by my mom not long after telling her about my experience with my sister's ghost (or whatever it was), after my mom told me about hers.

When I was only a toddler in the late '80s, my mom was visiting my sister in her, her husband, and her baby daughter's apartment near Seattle, Washington. My mom went out into an empty bedroom in the apartment to see a spirit resembling a gray-colored gas. The room was cold and gave off a feeling of sorrow, oppression and sadness. Being used to encounters with spirits, she left the room and did not speak much about it.

When I was 11, I was staying in my sister's new house with my mother. She had lived in one other house after the apartment and before this one. My mom noticed that my niece did not seem like herself at all - she was cruel and very reclusive, and her and her brother had just gotten over several different illnesses that seemed to plague them from time to time. The first night there, I was sleeping on the top bunk of my nephew's bunk bed. My mom was sleeping in my niece's room. I woke up sometime in the night to feel something almost calling to me. I looked over and was horrified to see a gray-tinted gas-type spirit forming in the corner of the room. I felt nothing but hatred and loneliness from it. Just staring at it, it suddenly came rushing right to me. I rolled over quickly, pulled the covers over my head and held my eyes shut hard. I felt nothing but a shock of cold energy flowing through me, and then I went out cold. The next morning, my mom told me that she heard clawing from the walls and strange noises coming from her room and the room I was in. She said she was kept up half the night by piercing headaches. I then told her of my experience. That was when she told me about the gas-like ghost she saw at my sister's apartment when I was only a toddler. It perfectly fit the description of what I had seen the night before, only my version, this time, carried more anger than sadness.

Last year, four years after my nighttime attack, my mom got off of the phone with my sister. She had just moved into an even newer house, and already something had happened. She woke up one morning to see the woman from almost ten years before sitting beside her bed and tickling her toes with her fingers. She stayed still and watched the woman until it dematerialized, just like her first experience with it.

My mom suggested to her that she go around her house and sprinkle it with holy water. She did, and she has felt nothing but peace in it since. And neither my mother nor myself felt a single presence in the house when we visited at Christmas. My mom and I never told my sister about our experience with the ghost that seemed to stalk her from her apartment to her third house, and we never figured out the difference between the appearance of the old woman and the gas-like ghost. We never figured out if it was a demon or the ghost of my sister's aunt, but we do believe it was a demonic presence... but a tricky one, like most of them. But, my sister did later tell my mom that whenever she stayed with her aunt in her living days, she would always wake up to find her sitting next to her bed, watching her wake up.
