House of
Ghosts
by Anthony
Yep, we sure got a lot of ghosts! My sisters and I have had many ghostly encounters at my grandmother's house over the years. We have found out after doing some research that the house was part of a large farm that burned down over 100 years ago in which some of the hired farm hands died. The house and another building were rebuilt. The second building now serves as a garage. My grandmother has lived in the house for about 40 years.
I also know that my aunts played with a Ouija board in the upstairs room. This room is where a lot of ghostly phenomena has happened after the Ouija board was used. The usual ghostly encounter at this house includes hearing footsteps upstairs when you are alone in the house, hearing someone walk down the stairs from upstairs, feeling a presence or presences in the room, seeing shadows of people that shouldn't be there (there would be no light source or person to make the shadows) moving in the hall or the back bedroom (which lead out side; the porch is no longer there; the back door is no longer used and is blocked off). Noises of things falling in the basement, someone walking up from the basement, and old radios that haven't worked in decades would start playing music from the '40s and '50s.
There have been three different occasions that I can think of where an actual ghost has been sighted in the house. Once when my older sister was sleeping in my grandmother's room with my grandmother, she woke up at about 3 o'clock in the morning and saw some one sitting at the side of the bed. At first my sister thought it was my aunt Barb, who lived in the one room upstairs. It was dark in the room, but my sister describes the person as being a very solid presence in the room. It wasn't shadowy or see-through. It also resembled my aunt Barb and my grandmother in looks. This person seemed to be an older female. After a few moments of mutual staring, the "female" stood up and walked to the dresser right next to the bed. The "female" put her hand out to touch something on the dresser, and then both she and the chair she was sitting in disappeared.
The second ghostly encounter was my own experience. I'd just gotten off the school bus and got in the house when I heard some one walking around upstairs. My first thought was to get the cordless phone, get out of the house and call the police. Mistake number one! In the room where the cordless phone was stood a young man about 17-18 years old - and I could see through him. I raced down the hall and passed the stairs where I heard someone walking down the stairs. Mistake number two! I took a quick look at the stairs, and on the stairs was a figure of an older female. Again I could see through her. I ran through the front door and stayed outside until my aunt came home from work.
The last of the ghost encounters was when my sisters and cousins were spending the night at my grandmother's. My two male cousins (ages 8 and 5) slept on the living room floor with me (age at that time 12) and my younger sister (age at the time 10). In the middle of the night I woke up to find both of my cousins frozen with fear. They were staring at two figures standing in the doorway between the dining room and living room. One figure was of a young boy no older than my five-year-old cousin, and the second figure was the teenage boy that I wrote about above. I don't know whether these ghosts were from the fire or brought here from the Ouija board. But I do know that there is an evil presence there as well as the ghosts and that there are more ghosts there now than the ones told about above.
