Just Point
by Amber J.

Things started innocently enough. I was sitting in a Lazy Boy, eating onion soup, when I heard a thump on the staircase. I was about to go to the staircase to investigate, but I decided it was just a cat, so I resumed eating. I was too comfy to care. I had just finished eating when I heard the thump again, yet a little louder. Annoyed with having to get up so soon (I was going to take a little nap in the chair), I ran over to the bottom of the stairs and looked up the staircase. Nothing. Confused, I began to walk back to the chair when I felt a coldness run down my spine and I could smell sulfur in the air. Horrified, I whirled around to see a bright, white shape. It was like a human shape at first, but slowly its shape and features clarified and I could see an old woman. She was dressed in a long dress, like something that you would see in the 1800s. The expression on her face was sad. Slowly, she lifted an arm and pointed to a picture of my me, my father and mother, and my brother, whom I had not seen in 20 years. As I took a closer look, she seemed to be pointing to my brother. All of a sudden, her arm jerked up and she pointed up the staircase. There was nothing there. I had had enough. I closed my eyes, wishing that she would just leave. I opened my eyes and she was gone. Clearly shocked, I walked back to the chair and sat down, too scared to even think.

Three days later, I was visiting Dallas on business. I was looking through the World Trade Center at the different types of jewelry on the 14th floor. I decided that just to be safe, I might as well look on the 15th, just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I was just about to step onto the escalator when a chill went down my spine and I smelt sulfur. I saw the woman again. Yet she was smiling and no one else seemed to notice her. She pointed up the escalator and there, to my amazement, I saw my brother whom I hadn't seen in 20 years walk by. I screamed and ran up the escalator, pushing down a lot of people along the way. There was my brother!
