Vision of Heavenly City
by Kelli C.

I can't call my experience a near-death one because it happened in a very vivid dream I had when I was 14. I came home very late one night after a bad babysitting job and it was about 12:30 in the morning. I was so tired it only took a few seconds to get to sleep.

I dreamed I woke up in a small silver trailer, and for some reason found out I was living with a middle-aged couple who were real buttheads. The woman was chattering to her equally fat husband, and she pushed me into a closet, telling me they were having guests over and I couldn't be seen! Note - my parents were NOT like that at all! Actually, they remind me more of my now landlords across the street, and I live in a trailer, only it's a lot bigger. I was surrounded by darkness in this tiny closet and wondered how I would get out. I made the realization then that I didn't have to be with these people. Suddenly, a hand reached through the BACK of the closet and pulled me out! It was a female angel with no wings and a white robe. She spoke gently but urgently for me to follow her, and I knew she was rescuing me. We met a teenage couple who looked breathless and scared, and we all had to hide in a big hollowed out log from something while the angel stood guard above it.

I remember running after that and meeting a more authoritative male angel who stood looking with me at a city in the midst of destruction. The sky was electric red and there was constant noise, but it was still pretty far away, like the scene was contained. I had the feeling it was my earth's cities I was seeing, and more specifically, one of the older European cities. The buildings that were still recognizable were both old and new. I only watched for a few seconds when the angel suddenly told me to turn away and cover my eyes. There was a huge explosion that almost blinded me, even cowering on the ground with my arms over my head. It was followed by an even bigger wind that faded away, and with it, the red sky.

The angel disappeared and I knew it was safe to stand up. When I did, the sky changed from black to multicolored stars. I heard a strain of faint music/sound coming from everywhere and with it the horizon shimmered into a city with multicolored lights. The glass-like buildings themselves seemed to be alive and bursting from some higher power from within. It drew me like nothing else has ever drawn me, and I immediately felt God's presence. It's hard for me to get that feeling now, because I could only feel it that intensely in the dream. Same with the visions. It's like it's only half there though I remember all the details. The experience itself I can't get back, and it's probably that way for a reason. I also remember looking to the right side of the city and hearing people singing with deep joy and praise, and I knew God was there, watching everything. The longer I looked and felt everything, the more I wanted to go to the city. I'd never felt the power of God's presence so strong, or longed for Him so much. I'd been a Christian since I was 10, but this more than reinforced my beliefs. It would come in handy later when I would have doubts and go through some spiritual challenges as an adult. I've never forgotten it.

The longing got to the point where it was almost unbearable, and at that point, I heard a voice say, "Child, don't look back." It was deep, rich, powerful, loving and sad, and came from everywhere. This was after I'd tried running, only to find I didn't have a body and could only float/fly along the grass. I didn't seem to be getting any closer and this invisible wall came out of nowhere and knocked me down. I tried twice, but was knocked down the second time, too. Another detail I noticed before the appearance of the burning city and heavenly city was that there was a forest behind me on the green meadow. When the voice told me not to look back, I turned around, this time was more painful than when I had to look away from the other scene. The first one would have hurt me with pain to look, this one would have filled me with longing so strong that the joy would have killed me. I would have crossed that line between the mortal reality to the immortal, and wouldn't have been able to go back. I guess God had plans for me. But I know someday I'll see it again, and next time, it will be permanently. The last thing I saw before I woke up was a blue sky, a flat horizon, and I was sitting on the grass by a pure white stump where a tree used to be. The city was gone. Anyway, I was in a trance for several days after that, and couldn't stop thinking about it. I even did a story about it for 8th grade English class and got an A on it.

That's the most intense, biggest experience I've had, but I've had other ones, too. I've seen angels in real life, too. If you want I can tell you about those. I know this seems like a lot of stuff, but I'm not making this up. People who read it can take it or leave it. But it's something too big to keep to myself. I've been wanting to get this out for years, but haven't been able to find anybody to print it. I hope you will. Thank you so much. There's people who really need to hear this and know how much God loves them!
