Phantom Headlights

Our home in rural Georgia was small with only three windows on the front of the house. Even in the day time, it was very dark in the hallway, as no window could be seen from the hallway and no outside light could shine in the hallway either. (You will see why, this is important, to my story.)

Every night we would go to bed and I would wake up to hear a strange noise. I just thought that it was country life and a normal noise. Then one day my husband (Mark) asked me if I was hearing these sounds at night. Mark assured me those were not normal sounds. After talking about the strange sounds, we decided to change the house locks, sleep with our bedroom door open and the dog in the house. We both thought maybe one of the former owners were trying to break in.

The first night nothing happen. We both thought the problem was solved. The next night the dog started to growl and whine in the middle of the night. The dog was standing in the doorway to the hall. Just as I sat up in bed, I saw what looked like headlights hit the wall at the end of the hall. I woke up Mark, and he said he heard and saw nothing. This went on for several nights and just as I was becoming convinced I was crazy, Mark heard a noise and woke up, just in time to see the lights. They would come down our hallway, just as headlights do going down the road, then hit the wall just to vanish. We both got out of bed and looked around the house. No one was in the there expect for us and the dog. No outside light can be seen from the hall, we tried to explain it away and just could not do it. The lights went on for a few months just to stop suddenly.

I will never know what was causing the lights at night. If you are wondering what the sound was, it very close to the sound a car makes going across a wooden bridge. We never heard a car or any person, just a heavy sound and saw the lights. What ever it was, it scared us and our dog.
