Creepy
Footsteps
by LuckyStarz
Two years ago, in mid-summer, I was staying up late reading a book. Around 2:30, I think I heard light footsteps walking up my basement stairs. I didn't take this to heart, so I turned back to my book and continued reading. Less than 30 seconds later I heard the footsteps stop at the top of the stairs. Then seconds later it continued its way to the right into my living room. I got goosebumps and sat straight up in my bed, trying to think as quickly as possible about what to do in this situation. On its way into the living room it bumped into a small table, rattling together a candy dish on top, making a clinking noise.
I stood up and grabbed the nearest object and began to slowly make my way out of my room, thinking this was an intruder in my house. I walked into the room next to mine and tried to wake up my brother. After not succeeding, I creeped my way across the short distance to my parents' room and tried to wake up my parents. On my way to their room I heard the footsteps walk across the living room floor and sit in a chair. They began to rock back and forth, and with each back motion I heard a squeak from the chair.
After several tries of waking my parents, my dad woke with a sudden jolt. I told him about what I'd heard, and he walked through the hallway towards the living room, turning on lights on his way. I stood near my room, afraid to walk any further than there. My dad finally came back and told me no one was in the room. After that I went right to sleep.
The next day I woke up early, around 9:30. I went to the living room and turned on the TV. I flipped through the channels, but didn't find anything interesting, so muted the sound and went across the room to my piano. I turned on the electric piano and began to play softly. I turned to look at my dog, lying in the middle of the room. She was sound asleep, and I knew she wouldn't wake up when I called her name or anything, so I turned back to the piano and continued playing.
After maybe 10 minutes of playing, I heard a loud bang right next to my ear, similar to a gunshot. I jumped from the piano bench and looked around. Nothing abnormal seemed to be happening elsewhere, so I checked on my sleeping dog. As I turned, I saw she was standing on all fours, shaking and all her hair was standing up like a cat's. I ran to her just as she began growling at the doorway next to the basement stairs. I got chills down my spine and I turned to the portable phone sitting on top of the piano. I called a friend and told her what happened.
Since then I haven't had anymore paranormal experiences as big and frightening as this, but I have frequently heard the footsteps and I often hear doors opening and closing and footsteps roaming the house while in he basement, home alone.
