Telepathic
Dogs
by Karen C.
Approximately two years ago, we adopted a dog from animal control which had been badly abused. His name is Smitty and he is extremely affectionate and shows no signs of the abuse except that he is fearful of hands near his head. At the time we got Smitty, he shared a barn with three other dogs and was the favorite playmate of one of our females named Corrie. Corrie died suddenly of an immune disorder and Smitty was noticeably distraught without a playmate (the other two dogs are older pointers and not given much to play).
A few months later, we were told of another dog at animal control that was available that had been abandoned and was showing signs that it had been abused. We went down, fell in love and adopted Fergus, a border collie, to be a new playmate/friend for Smitty. We bring our dogs into our barn at night to sleep. On the first night we had Fergus, my husband and I called, begged, pleaded and bribed to get Fergus in to the barn. After an exhausting two hours, I finally looked at Smitty who was already inside and patiently waiting to go to sleep and knelt down and asked him, "Please, Smitty, help Fergus. He is scared and is afraid to come inside. He needs your help. Please help him to come inside." Smitty looked carefully at me then he went outside. He went out to Fergus and stopped right in front of him. They looked like - no kidding - they were having a conversation. The next thing I see is Smitty walking back to the barn with Fergus slightly back and to the side of him. They laid down on the straw together and we've never had trouble again trying to encourage Fergus in to the barn at night to go to sleep. It was an eerily, awesome moment that I will never forget and it cemented my belief that there can be a telepathic communication between animals.
