Baby Emily
by Angela G.

When I was about two years old, my family moved into a new house. My older sister Becky, my mom, my dad and I all had our own rooms. My room was closet to the living room and kitchen, with just a closet in between. Lots of weird stuff would happen around our house at night time. I can't remember anything, and neither can my dad because he worked up in Norway, but my mom and sister can vouch for everything.

First of all, my mother is a total neat freak. When friends of her would come over to play some games, they usually would excuse themselves at one time or another to go get a drink from the kitchen. When her friends would come back from the kitchen they would say something like, "It's weird how your so neat, yet all the cupboard doors are open!" My mom, denying this, would walk back into the kitchen with her friend to prove them wrong. Every time she did this, right before entering the kitchen, her and her friend would hear a "click, click, click." And when they go into the kitchen, all the cupboard doors would be shut again. This happened almost every time a friend was over.

On many occasions, Becky and my mom would stay up watching TV, while I was sleeping in bed. Also on several occasions, while watching TV, they would hear me crying from my room, but they go in there to check on me, and I would be sound asleep. Once when my mom was home alone watching TV one night, she heard the crying. Knowing that you could hear the crying only from the living room and not my bedroom, she figured the noise had to be coming from the hall closet. So while the crying was going on, she opened the closet door. That when she heard a lady's voice say, "It will be okay, Emily. It will be okay."

Now that had her totally freaked out, but she wanted to know who this Emily was. So she asked our next-door neighbor, Tony, who was the original owner of his house, and knows everybody that had ever lived in our street, who Emily was. He said he never knew a baby named Emily that used to live in our house, or even on our street. A few years later we moved out of the house, still not knowing who Emily was.
