The Man Who Wasn't There
by Meriah L.

In June of 2007 I had been seeing this strange man at the most random times and places. I chose to ignore it, but it grew harder because this guy followed me almost everywhere I'd go. Soon, he would start talking to me and, of course, I'd talk back. I figured he was really there, he looked so real. It wasn't until I was riding the town bus that I realized that no one else saw him.

I was sitting there talking to him. He would tell me things about me that no one else knew, and I asked him how he knew these things about me when I don't even know his name. That's when an older woman looked at me and asked me who I was talking to, and I told her. She said that there was no one sitting next to me and asked me to get off at the next stop. When I turned back to see if he was there, the man was gone.

I told my boyfriend at the time about it and he said that it was just lack of sleep, and I figured he was right. So for the next few days I stayed home and slept.

Then, on the Fourth of July, I woke up and at the end of my bed I saw the same man that I'd seen on the bus. I asked him to go away, and said I didn't want to talk to him anymore and to leave me alone. Afterward, he just sat there and stared at me. (I hate being stared at, so I started to freak out .) The man told me that I didn't deserve Andy (my boyfriend) and that one of us had to die. I don't know where it came from, but I saw in my mind Andy getting hit by a car and I started to cry.

I called Andy over and I told him what was wrong. He said that it was just a dream and it would be okay. But you could tell that he was getting freaked out. I told him to stay home the next day, and if he left, I told him, to be really careful. He had promised me that he would. It took a long time to calm me down, and I thought it was all over. Until the next day when my boyfriend almost got hit by a car, but his best friend grabbed him by the collar and pulled him back just in time. If he had waited five more seconds to pull Andy back, he would've gotten
hit by a car.

I had thought I was crazy until what the man told me came true. I'm not so sure how to explain it, but it can't be right.
