Poltergeists on the Loose
by Melissa K.

This is going to be a long entry, so I'll separate each story with spaces. I'll start with something my uncle and aunt told me that they swear was true:

They believe that they had a poltergeist at one time. At first, small things would happen, such as the TV and VCR turning on, but then things got bigger and more dangerous. Paper would fall onto the stove from nowhere and then the stove would start. They almost had a few bad fires from this. Doors all over the house would open and close, and locked doors would come unlocked all the time and swing wide open. This happened with the windows as well, whether they were locked or not. The washer and dryer would come on, sometimes together and sometimes not, and they would jump around all over the laundry room. Lights would come on all over the house as well. They had a priest come in their house once and bless it, but it didn't work, so they had someone come over (I'm not sure if it was the same person or not) to bless their house again, and he told them to open all the doors and windows and tell the poltergeist to go away. It went away, and they think that it went to the house next doors, because they found out about strange things that were happening to their neighbors. I believe that their neighbors moved away shortly afterwards.

Another aunt of mine had a problem with a ghost that they think is the ghost of her dead little girl. Her little girl died at around the age five, and they think that she doesn't know that she is dead yet. Sometimes when there was only one person home the front (locked) door would come open, and there would be footsteps going downstairs, but there was no else home, so my aunt or cousin (whoever was home at the time) would shut the door and lock it, and it would open again. My aunt kept feeling like someone was coming in the room and lying down in the bed next to her, and the entire family would be eating dinner in the kitchen when they would feel a presence in the room and hear footsteps coming into the kitchen and end at the table, or a chair. I think they heard a little girl laughing at times, but I'm not positive about that. One day my cousin was sitting down on the couch when he felt a presence by him, and when he looked over, there was an indent in the couch next to him. It was the size of a small child. He said that he was afraid to put his hand over that spot incase he felt someone. They finally moved from that house, but they are still having "problems" with a ghost in their house now. They were having problems ever since their little girl died over 20 years ago.

One friend of mine had such bad problems with a house she used to live in that she had to move. Every time she put her baby in the room upstairs, she (the baby) would screech until she was brought downstairs. They constantly heard people walking around upstairs, but there was never anyone there. I can't remember much about what happened in that house, but I do know that my friend told me that she couldn't even go upstairs to the bathroom unless someone went with her and waited outside the door. She had to move from that house after because things got so bad.

Another friend of mine had problems in her bedroom. Things would constantly move from where she put the, and she would hear voices at times. I heard voices in her room at times as well, and I saw someone looking in the window one night in the winter, but when I went outside, there were no footsteps outside her window (it had snowed the day before and not at all that night). I would also hear things banging, and I wouldn't go near her closet at times because I constantly heard things from there, and sometimes when I left the room, things in her closet were in a different position when I came back (when there was no one else in the room). She told me that she saw someone on the edge of her bed looking at her one night too. About once a year or once every two years two spots would appear on the back of her neck, like someone had pricked her with a sharp needle or knife, or something like that. They would just appear. I remember one time she came over to my house and there was nothing there, and on the way to her house we stopped for a minute to go to the store, and I saw them on her neck when she got out of the car (she had short hair, so it was easy to see).

There were a few things that happened to me as well. I used to hear voices in the basement all the time. It sounded like my father was in the basement talking to another man, but there was never anyone there. I always heard it when my parents were either gone or upstairs. One time I decided to be brave and investigate, and as I got closer to the door, the voices got louder. I opened the door and the voices were very loud, so I chickened out and went back upstairs.

I used to always hear my mother calling out to me when she wasn't home. The first time I heard it was when I was upstairs in my bedroom with my window open, and I heard mom calling out my name and knocking on the door. I thought she was locked out without her keys, so I went downstairs to let her in, and there was no one there. My father was downstairs watching TV, and I asked him if he heard anything, and he said no. I went back up in my room, and heard mom calling out to me and knocking on the door again, so I closed my window and my blind. After that I constantly heard mom calling out to me from the bottom of the stairs when there was no one home. Once I heard her calling to me from her room, but when I went upstairs, she was sound asleep. I heard mom calling out to me so much when she wasn't home that I just stopped answering her when she really was calling out to me in case I was just hearing things, and mom would always have to come upstairs to my room and knock on my door to get my attention.

I know that I wasn't just hearing things or there was something wrong with my ears, because I was telling my brother about that about a month ago, and his eye nearly came out of his head, and he told me that that happened to him all the time, too. He always thought that it was all in his head until I told him that. I also know that I wasn't just hearing things because on day a lot of thing were going on that I was hearing and my boyfriend was there and heard them all too. We were home alone with all the doors and windows locked, when my boyfriend told me to go downstairs because my mom had just called out to me. When I went downstairs, no one was home, so I went back upstairs and told my boyfriend, "Frank," that there was no one home. Then we both heard mom calling out to me again. We stopped and I said, "Did you hear that?" and he said yes. Then we heard the front door open and close, and someone come upstairs, and mom called out to me. I said, well, they must finally be home, but when I went downstairs, there was still no one home. After I went back up to my room, my boyfriend and I started hearing the windows and doors open and close, and we heard people walking around all over the house, especially up and down the stairs. We heard someone going in the basement and slam the door behind them, so I told Frank that I think there must be someone in the house, so we went and investigated all over the house, but there was no one inside, and all the doors were still shut and locked. We went back upstairs, and he went to the bathroom, and when he came back he told me he heard someone walking around on the roof. My parents have a split-level, three-story house, so that was impossible.

Another time "Frank" and I had a problem over to his house. I can't remember if this was the same day as what happened above, or another day. We were home alone, when Frank and I heard a click, and when we left the room we saw that the front door was open. Frank went upstairs, shut it, and locked the doorknob. After we went in the room again, we heard another click, and when we checked, the door was open again. We knew the wind couldn't have opened it, because it wasn't a windy day, and there is a screen door outside the main front door. Anyway, he closed it, pulled on the doorknob to make sure it wouldn't open again, and this time locked the doorknob and the deadbolt. We went downstairs, and closed his room door. He told me to be quiet for a minute and he stood by his room door, when we heard a click again, and sure enough, the front door was open again (each time it didn't just open a little, but about half-way, like someone was coming in the house). This happened a few more times, even thought it was locked with two locks and seemed secure. It stopped when his parents came home.
