The Shaking Bed
by James B.

A few months ago, my brother claimed his bed was vibrating or shaking, and our house pets are nowhere near at the time. (Not too important now, but it relates.)

I remember growing up and feeling the same thing, but I always wrote it off to my imagination or just youthful indifference. As I got older, I started to notice it more. The other night, I was awoken a short period of time after I fell asleep. I looked around my room to see if anyone was playing a joke on me. It was unlikely as it was 3 a.m. and my mother and brother were asleep. Secondly, my door was closed. I looked at a strange shape that was hovering over my floor 3-4 feet away around the end of my bed. I saw what resembled a net or a tangled spider web-looking shape that was dark grayish or black. As soon as I sat up to get a closer look, it jolted and took off in my direction. I ducked a little as my reflexes would, and it disappeared behind me somewhere. I was too freaked to get up, turn around or even explore it. I just pulled the blankets up and laid there staring around the room on alert. I began to feel my bed vibrate and shake. Somehow, after laying there on alert, I fell asleep.

I think it was about two hours later, still dark outside. I noticed the moon coming into my room and I somehow woke up again, more softly this time. I looked around the room hoping to not see anything and I happened to notice that my room looked hazy. I remember thinking that my fan might be smoking or something, but as my eyes focused I noticed it wasn't smoking and there was no smell. I looked up at the window and there was a cloud or area of haze that seemed to be moving. Somehow it didn't seem to hold the same properties of "smoke." It appeared more fluid and almost beautiful. I watched it twirl and and twist before I pulled the blankets over my head. I was so freaked that night alone, I naturally didn't sleep too well.
