Dog Sensed the Spirit
by John B.

After reading the article entitled, Animals and Ghosts, I was reminded of something that I happened when I was 14 years old. (I'm now in my 40s). It was a cold winter night and my parents and sisters were out, so I was watching TV with our basset hound, sitting on the couch with me and the heater on high. The room got very cold and the dog's ears pricked up. I felt a cold draft as (so it seemed) something passed by the couch. The dog began a low whine and his head seemed to follow whatever it was that passed through the lounge room and into the kitchen (both doors were closed at the time). I felt very alarmed by this and was waiting on the footpath outside when my family got home. Of course, none of them believed anything had happened and put it down to imagination.

Several weeks later, it happened again, but this time "something" passed through my bedroom, with the same result (cold air and a reaction from the dog). I didn't bother to tell my parents about this, and it happened maybe four or five times before we moved out of that house.

About five years later, I was studying across the other side of town and got friendly with one of the other students. He told me he was dating a nurse who lived in a house that had "all kinds of strange happenings" (his words not mine). I asked him what kind of things and he said that she hears noise on the roof at night "like someone throwing gravel onto the roof." Also, she told him that she felt as if someone was in the house with her when she was alone. While they both were pulling down a small shed in the backyard, they found that the Masonite that lined the roof of the shed had a pentagram painted on the reverse side (I dont know if that is relevant, but it seemed to alarm him). I asked where she lived and was amazed he said 5 Dight St., Collingwood - the very same house we lived in.
