Wife Saw the Old
Hag
by Richard B.
I live in Burlington, Ontario, I'm a farther of four and have been married 12 years. About 7 to 8 years ago, I was living in Brampton, Ontario when I was awoken one night and knew right away something was wrong. I could not move in bed and I was lying on my back; could not speak, but was wide awake. There was something on my chest pressing me down. I tried to struggle to break free, but could not. After what seemed forever, I was able to start to move. This scared me, for I'm a six foot 5 inch man of 250 lbs, and I helpless. I was finally able to scream for my wife who was downstairs, who came running to me to see what was the matter, as soon as she opened the door I was set free. She was concerned at first, but chalked it up to a bad dream.
This event happened every night after this for about two weeks, some nights worst than others. I never saw anything, but felt it. My wife at this time was up a lot at night taking care of our babies, and this attack always happened when she was not present. By this time we are concerned that maybe it was stress related, but at this time in our lives things couldn't be better: money was plenty, and my job was going great. But we decided maybe I should go talk to someone, so I talked to my doctor, who sent me to a headshrinker. He was a nice man, a doctor in his sixties, and we had a lot of talks about different things including there "attacks." He prescribed a mild sleeping pill, which I took, but this didn't stop the attacks.
Then one night I was having an attack, and I heard my wife coming up the stairs after I had finally scream, she opened the door, and she screamed, "What the #uck is that on you!" The attack stopped and the thing passed right through her. Needless to say, neither one of us sleep that night. She couldn't describe the thing other than to say that it was woman-like features, but old and ragged. After that night, the attacks came not as often and we learned to live with it.
We moved to Burlington, Ontario in 1998 and the problem seemed to stop for a while. About summer 1999, the attacks started again, but more violently. I was left with bruises and scratches. But again always when I was alone in bed. Then the tables turned, the thing started to attack my wife when I was not there, which really pissed her off. So again we learned to live with it.
But it got worse. One night my wife and I where in bed together and I was awakened around 4 a.m. I heard something downstairs. We live in a three floor home. I opened our door, which is at the top of the stairs, to see if I could find out what it was, and was leaning over the railing to see if I could see it when a hand pushed me in the middle of my back and whispered, "Miss me?"
I was able to grab hold of the railing and fell about four steps to the middle landing, hurting my hand and scratching my shoulder. Then I heard laughter coming from the basement. Now I was angry. Enough was enough and I went downstairs like a charging bull moose. The noise had stopped and there was nothing there. After about an hour awake, and I was sure the danger had passed I went to work. When I came home and didn't mention anything to my wife, until she said, "That old bitch was up to her old tricks last night on me." That's when I told her what had happened.
In early September, my job had changed to allow me to work 90% from home. I do a lot of my work at night when the kids are in bed. It is normal for me to work all night and go into the office around 5 a.m. for an hour then return home before rush hour to rest. Last week I was at my computer working, listening to the radio around 3 a.m. when all of a sudden, I got pushed in the back, hard enough that my neck snaps back and I felt that same presence that I feel just before an attack.
