Psychic
Bond
by Carol
Many stories throughout history indicate a psychic bond between mother and child. I have always believed this and now have a personal experience of my own to reinforce this belief.
Several months ago, I found myself remaining at work after hours on a Friday. Not to say I'm a clock watcher, but having absolutely no work to catch up on and everyone else leaving, I wondered why I felt compelled to stay at work. And compelled I was. I could not justify my staying behind, but I simply could not make myself leave the office. About 20 minutes after the time I should have left for the day, my grown daughter called me and she was hysterical.
She had finished her own work early and had gone home to find one of her two cats dead on her living room floor. The cat had just turned a year old not a month earlier. There was no sign of anything that could have caused the cat to die and the other cat was hiding under my daughter's bed.
At that time, I did not have a cell phone and had plans to go to a friend's house after work. If not for that intensely strong need to remain at work, I would have gone to my friend's house. She and I would have gone grocery shopping and picked up a video and gone to her house to cook dinner and enjoy a movie.
My daughter did not know this friend and therefore would have had no way of knowing where I might be or whom to call to find me. Had she called me at home, she would have had to leave a message which I would not have gotten until much later that night.
Because of that strong need to remain at work, I was able to rush to my daughter's home and help her through that tremendous shock and upset. We took both cats to the vet to find out what happened to the first cat and to determine the health of the second one. The vet was unsure what caused the cat's death – he couldn't find evidence the cat choked or of any disease.
The other cat was pronounced healthy. My ability to be with my daughter was a great comfort to her and I was able to help her with the vet trip. She told me on the way back to her apartment, "I must have been very upset to have called you at work when I know you would have already left."
Whatever it was that forced me to remain at work, without knowing why, I am grateful to have been able to be with my daughter during her difficult and upsetting time.
