Girl in the Mirror
by Braydon S.

This started one night two years ago, and I just want to get to the chase, because I am TOTALLY AFRAID to sleep anymore and I need someone who can explain to me just what the hell this is. This night, I sprung up in my bed for some weird reason and stared right into the mirror facing my bed, on my night table. It took me a few moments for my eyes to adjust to the darkness, but when they did, I felt so scared I stiffened up and felt like I was going to vomit.

Sitting next to me in my bed, staring at me through the mirror, was a young girl ... only there was no one actually in my bed. I'd look next to me ... obviously, there was no one. I don't make a habit of sleeping with people since my partner passed on, and especially not little children. But I'd look up again, and this thing would be STARING at me in the mirror, looking as terrified as I did. All I could do was freeze and stare, hoping that my staring would send it away. But all it did was start heaving, as if stopping from crying, although I couldn't hear a sound.

About 20 minutes later that night, it disappeared and I was beside myself with ... terror wasn't even the word. I wanted to go to the bathroom, but even before I reached the bathroom, I froze again, because this girl or whatever it was was in the bathroom, facing me, looking absolutely overcome with fear. I started shortly afterward hearing loud screams in my ear in the middle of the night to wake up and see no one ... until I looked in the mirror again.

One night, I tried to shake everything, and just when I was about to fall asleep, I heard "DON'T ..." in a really sickly voice. It didn't even sound like a girl anymore, more like an old lady. I woke up and this thing was right in my face, her mouth moving I swear like hundreds of words a second. This has been happening at least three times a week since then. Friends of mine come over, and slowly, many of them don't want to come back, but won't tell me why.

A girl I know came STREAKING downstairs one evening after "freshening up" in the bathroom, pale as a ghost. She was actually trembling and rushed to put on her jacket. She told me to stay at her home that evening instead of in this house. I PLEADED with her to tell me what in blazes make her that freaked out (and I didn't want to say anything). She started crying, squeaked out an "I'm sorry ..." and practically ran down the street, looking up at the upstairs window. When she called me to persuade me to stay over at her house again, the phone suddenly cut off. The the lights flickered. All I could do was hold my chest, and try to convince myself that the little girl beside the disconnected phone cord with the huge eyes and terrified expression must be my mind again.

I don't have a lot of money, and can only afford this place to live. I'm a tough guy, I think, and do not want to let this thing control my life. Maybe it'll stop one day, after a while of continuing to still come home at night, seeing her in my bedroom window from the street.
