Grandmother's Coins
by Karen

My grandmother always saved coins. We used to always enjoy looking at them and making comparisons. There are coins that are dated in the early 1800s. My grandmother passed away, and the coins were forgotten over a period of time. We all grew up and went our separate ways.

One day my son and I drove to my mother's house, and she pulled out this old box. It was the coins. I was so amazed that they were still around, and it meant so much to me for they were from my dad's side of the family. My father passed away in 1990. My mom gave all the coins to me to give to my son when I die. My whole family enjoy looking at these coins. We bought a red book and were seeing how much these coins were worth. Hunter and I put the coins in plastic bags and documented every coin.

Later that evening, my kids were all off to friends' houses to spend the night. Alone in the house, I continued to document these coins. I finally retired to bed, and was watching TV. At exactly midnight, I heard something being thrown, hit my spindles on staircase and land in my hallway. I froze with fear, and then figured it was my husband playing tricks. Ten minutes later, it happened again. After getting over my fear (three minutes), I crept out of bed and ran downstairs to find my husband fast asleep. I woke him up crying and made him search our whole house.

When he made his way upstairs, he found old coins out of the bags, laying in the hallway. The empty bags lay where I was previously documenting them. We have one bedroom that we leave closed off because of strange happenings. One night my daughter was home from college. She slept in that room with our dog Kaci. At midnight she came flying out of the room because for no reason Kaci stood up with her hair on her back raised and growled very loud toward the closet. Since then the door always remained closed. Last night when we found the coins on the floor in the hallway, the door was open, along with the window being unlocked.
