Fading Face
by Greg

I've never believed in what I thought of a "silly" ghost-stories or paranormal claims that you see on TV. Nor have I ever taken the time to research ghosts or other such things. However, I did have an experience about a year ago that changed my opinion pretty quick. I remember it was fairly late one night, maybe 11:00, and I had yet to take a shower that day because I was helping my brother build a gas forge in his backyard to heat steel for metalworking (medieval armor and weaponry production).

My parents were gone out to a wedding, my sister out with her boyfriend, and my other brother was out with his friends somewhere. Thus, I decided I would shower now then watch a movie. My room is on the highest floor of my house (basically the attic), and to get to my bathroom I have to walk down the stairs to my room, open my door and turn left and then there would be my bathroom door. At the time, my bathroom door had been left open. So, I get my clothes from my room and I walk downstairs, but out of the corner of my eye I see something just outside the window on the far wall of my bathroom (straight inside the door on the far wall). At the time it reminded me of a bird; in fact, I thought it was a dove at first. As I turned my head to look directly at it, though, I saw that it was blurry, like chalk smeared on black paper, and it wasn't a bird at all. It seemed to be a face. It had two barely recognizable eye-holes, a faded black hole where the mouth would be, and what looked to be a depression for a nose. As I stared at this, it did not move, but it did seem to be "wasting away," as if it was draining from just outside the window into the colors behind it... like it was fading into the blackness of the night sky. I got really scared, my heart started beating really fast, and it suddenly seemed very cold. So, after about a minute of just staring at it, scaring myself in wondering what the hell it was, I reached by hand into the bathroom and flicked the light switch on the inner-left side of the wall. Still there, but not as noticeable because of the light glare on the bathroom window.

I did not enter the bathroom at this point, I was so freaked out I didn't want to go near it. I backed up into my room, turned on all the lights, and sat in my bed for a while. Eventually I worked up the courage to go back down to find out that it was gone. So I shut off the bathroom light and went back into my room, deciding not to take a shower.
