Ghost Called Out
by Ivetta

This (very true) story took place in Georgia about six years ago, after the very much anticipated birth of our daughter. She was our first, as well as the first grandchild on both sides of the family. No one was more excited than my husband's grandparents, but as the due date neared, his grandfather unexpectedly passed away after a short illness. It broke our hearts that he would never get to meet his first great grandchild.

My husband and I had been living in our first house for a couple of years. As far as all the signs you read about in the case of paranormal happenings: strange sounds, missing objects, cold breezes, etc... our modest little abode had none. Just a plain old starter home with not so much as a squeaky door. Then, for a brief time in 2001, things went a little haywire. I was released from the hospital a few days before my daughter, due to the fact that she was premature. I was extremely sleep deprived and anxious, as I'm sure any new mother would be under the circumstances. As soon as I got home I felt immensely uneasy, like being watched, but that was easy enough to explain. I went about getting the last-minute details taken care of for the arrival of my baby. The big day finally came, and we couldn't have been happier. The first thing that really stands out in my mind is being awakened from a deep sleep by a man calling my husband's name from just outside the bedroom door. I was immediately irritated that someone would just let themselves into our front door, even though it was the middle of the day. I sat up on my elbow wondering if I had possibly dreamed it, and there it was again... the voice called out, "Hey!" in a kind of sharp tone. Now I was definitely awake! I hesitantly asked, "Who's there?" and there was just dead silence. Even the dog didn't bark. I crawled out of bed and investigated only to find no one, and the doors still locked. Again, I chalked it up to exhaustion and nerves. The next evening, my husband and I grabbed a few minutes between feedings for a quick nap. This time I was awakened, but not by a stranger's voice... it was my husband yelling out, "Who's there?" I turned to him with a questioning look, and he quickly got up and left the room. Within moments he was back, explaining that he had heard a man calling to him from the hallway just outside the room. My heart skipped a little beat, and then I shared my experience as well. Yet again, new parent jitters were the explanation. Within a couple of days we were in the nursery admiring our little bundle, when we plainly heard the front door open and close. Not like a breeze blowing, but the door knob twisting, door open, and shut completely. We both jumped and ran the few steps to the front. No one was anywhere to be seen, and I mean anywhere. No one on the porch, on the street, in the back or on the side of the house... just silence. Sleep deprivation can do strange things, but it doesn't open and shut doors! After a few uneventful days, we put these episodes behind us. Everything was rationalized away, and we concentrated on the tasks at hand. Getting in the shower one morning, I turned on the water, started to pull back the curtain, and glimpsed my husband move past the door from the direction of the baby's room. I casually yelled out to him, "Sweetheart?"... No answer. I was so sure that I had seen him that my mind would not accept that he would still be sound asleep a few yards away. I went out into the hall, feeling a just a little light-headed all of a sudden.

The "man" that I had seen had been dressed in white, almost flowing clothes, and it dawned on me my husband didn't own a robe or anything even close to "flowing". At about the same time it occurred to me that the "man" I saw move past the door looked to be gliding... there was no "stride" in the step at all. My first instinct was to check on my baby, and on the way I glanced in on my husband... although I already knew he'd be there. He hadn't stirred at all. Looking back, I still wonder if it really was "paranormal" in nature, but I have no other explanation. Maybe somebody was looking in on the newest member of the family?
