My Poltergeist
by Adam
I recently read that a large number of possible poltergeist activity may be down to a child who is doing things "sub-consciously" themselves. This story happened to me when I was about 13 years old, I am now 26 years old. The first day I noticed something weird happening inside my parents house - my friend and I were playing around with a tape recorder, just taping our voices. At the end of the tape (a brand new Sony tape) we rewound it, and both of us were very surprised that the beginning of the tape wasn't our voices at all (I would say the recording lasted about 8-10 seconds). At first it was just a very deep, croaky moan, and then a definite clear voice saying, "What do you want from me?"
Now my friend and I were young at the time, and unfortunately after listening to it about six times, we deleted it as it scared the hell out of both of us, so much so that my mate never came around my house again. That episode happened around 5.30 p.m. in the afternoon.
That night, my mum decided to take a shower. It was around 8 o'clock, so she went upstairs and I was left downstairs on my own. After five minutes, I started to think about the strange voice I had caught on tape, and started to sweat. I then got the idea in my head that my phone was going to ring, but no one would answer. It wasn't a guess; it felt like this thought was being drilled into my head (someone telling me to get the phone), so I was shocked and petrified when the phone rang. Reluctantly, I picked up the phone and all I could hear was a ticking (or tutting noise).
For the next four years living at that house, I had the worst possible childhood. If I left the television on at night, I would always wake up at quarter to three and watch it switch itself off. On other nights, if I had the television off and the lights on, I would wake up in the middle of the night with the television turning itself on and the lights flickering on and off really quickly. I found things were getting worse and worse with every week I stayed at the house.
My family went away for a weekend, and when we got back on the Sunday night, my mate who lived next door asked what I was doing over the weekend at my house. Her words were, "It sounded as if you were throwing things around your room, smashing things to bits." The weird thing is that my bedroom remained nearly untouched, apart from my metal computer chair, which had been bent almost in half.
Little things had also happened where I have awoken by bright flashing lights or had my legs felt like they have been dragged, and more than several occasions, I have been jerked very quickly out of bed. Why would I get a message on tape saying, "What do you want from me?"?
I finally moved out of the house when I was around 17 years old and everything stopped when I left the house. I tried to tell my parents about what was happening, but they never believed anything as they said they never experienced anything. Did I create all this disturbance myself or was it supernatural? Personally, I can't see how I would have conjured up a voice on a tape recorder or anything else that happened. I have not told this story to many people, as I think people would find me weird.
