Farm Wife Ghost

I've had many paranormal experiences, including seeing and hearing ghosts. I've also had a spontaneous past-life regression. When people ask if I've seen a ghost, this is the story I tell them, and it's totally, utterly true.
In February, 1973, I was sitting in my in-laws' living room in an old house outside Elkville, Illinois. My daughter was only a few weeks old, and this was the first time I'd had any time to myself since she'd been born. Suddenly, a woman appeared in the doorway. She appeared to be middle-aged and was wearing clothing from the 1800s, with a long apron covering a long dress. Her dark hair was pulled up in a bun. She seemed frazzled and harried, like a busy farm woman of that period probably would have been. Startled, I looked up at her and she looked down at me, and then she was gone. I knew immediately that I'd seen a ghost, but there was absolutely nothing frightening about the incident. She looked very much alive, except she was all in shades of gray.
After my in-laws died, my husband and his siblings began cleaning out the old house. For many years, I had wanted some antique oval picture frames from the Victorian era. When they began cleaning out the attic of the house, they found three and gave them to me. The back of one had been broken and it was empty. The second one had an obviously amateur painting in it. But the third one had a daguerreotype of the woman I'd seen standing in that doorway! There's no doubt that it's her. We've since moved more than 700 miles away and the old house is gone. My husband's youngest sister took it over and she and her family planned to restore it, but the sills were rotted so they had to tear it down. They built a new house on the old foundation, using the same floor plan. I have no idea if the woman is still there, but at least I have her picture on my living room wall to remind me of my experience with the unexplained.
