Dog Mystery

This incident took place at 7a.m. on October the 16, 2008 at my home in Tamworth, Staffordshire, England. I got up at my usual time of 7 a.m. and followed my usual routine of making a cup of tea and letting my two dogs out into the garden. Polly, my small terrier, disappeared into the back garden, and Rosie, my German shepard, took up her position on the corner of the yard between the back garden and the back door. She was in view to me from this position. Polly returned form the garden and I let her into the house. Rosie, as usual, suddenly shot off into the back garden (which is out of view from my position at the back door). I knew straight away she was running down to the bird table at the bottom of garden to chase the pigeons that always visit at this time.
I turned around to go back in to finish making my cup of tea. I could still hear Rosie barking. As I opened the door, I no longer could hear the barking and just assumed the pigeons had gone. I entered the house and -- you could of knocked me down with a feather -- lying down on her bed was Rosie!
I just don't know what happened. I have no theories. I am just totally baffled and would love someone to try and explain this. I know there will be people who say I hadn't noticed her enter the house, or that I had let her back in and then forgot, but I can assure you this is not the case. I am 110% confident that it happened exactly as I have related here.
