Miraculous
Oil
by Billy Q.
In the late 1950s, I attended an unusual service at my home church in Arkansas. A visiting minister started telling about a phenomena that was making a few rounds in that particular denomination (but was not accepted as authentic by all of them). It was, in short, called a manifestation of the "Holy Spirit" and consisted of the appearance of a clear, pure-looking oil on people's hands and sometimes on their faces, usually after earnest prayer and/or singing music of praise to the Lord. I would not have thought too much about it, except it happened to me and a few others in the church service this particular minister conducted. It first appeared on the palms of both of my hands, which were clean and were washed before attending church. I first noticed it when I arose from my knees in prayer. It was not sweat, nor had I yet shook hands with anybody. It was clear, looked pure and uniform throughout both hands. I smelled my clean hands a while after the oil appeared on them and there was no odor at all. This oil gradually dissipated when I got back home. I temporarily forgot about it and went on about daily tasks. I feel that this was a genuine religious experience and perhaps a valid one.
