Poltergeist Activity
by Stephanie G.

When I was nine, we moved into a new house. I had a funny feeling about the house as soon as I walked into it. I told my mother right then that I didn't like the house. She asked me why and I didn't really know. Just a feeling. Nothing really of significance happened until I was about 16 when I finally got my own bedroom. Up until that point I always had to share a room. I started having trouble falling asleep in that room. Some nights, after I was in a deep sleep, I would wake up paralyzed with fear - wide awake but feeling unable to move. Breathing shallowly, I would work up the courage to jump up out of bed and run into the living room where I felt safer. But when I reached the living room to try to sleep on the couch, a woman's humming kept me awake. I ended up on the floor of my sister's room.

It stared to seem like if I was doing something questionable, like reading a naughty book, my night light would start glowing brighter or flicker. If I put the book down, it would stop. I had a phone in my room but unplugged it because the thing would beep at the same time in the middle of the night and wake me up. I unplugged the phone and put it in my closet, where it still beeped at the same time of night and woke me. One night I slept over at a friend's house. She also had a phone in her room. We got in late from an outing, and her phone beeped at us the same time my phone used to. She said that was odd, her phone had never done that before.

When I began dating, things started to get really out of hand. I had a boy over pretty late and we both heard footsteps that sounded like they were on a wooden floor. We had linoleum. I thought I was surely in trouble because of the late hour, and expected the door to open. Nothing happened. I went to check to see who was up making the racket, and no one else was awake. Both of my parents were asleep. When I told my mom of the experience she said she, too, had heard these footsteps coming down her carpeted hallway to her room. After that, I would wake up to a scratching noise in my room. It would start in one corner, go to the next, and the next and the next and go faster and faster. One night I couldn't take it so I yelled for it to stop, and thankfully it did.

One night I had a very strange, disturbing dream that had nothing to do with anyone in the family or anything that was going on in our lives. I went to share the dream with my mom in the morning, and she stopped me with a stunned look on her face. She finished telling my dream because she, too had the same dream.

The last thing that happened was when I met my husband to be. We were house-sitting for a friend. We had dinner, and were sitting on the couch in a lip lock. All of a sudden the wine glasses flew off of the table and smashed into the wall. Neither of us were anywhere near the glasses. I was just happy that I had a witness and I wasn't crazy. After I got married, nothing ever happened again. I figured that I had a couple of ghosts, mom and dad figures who were just trying to keep me out of trouble. They were finally happy that I settled down and got married.
