A Demon
Released
by Laurie H.
On January 24, 1989 in the early morning hours, I awoke to find a hazy brownish blob hovering close to the ceiling over my bed. As I stared at it, it began to take on a more distinctive shape and I could feel something pressing down on my entire torso. I didn't not feel paralyzed so much as I felt safe as long as I didn't move. The pressure was analogous to the heat you feel at a distance from a strong light; as long as you don't touch the light source, you won't get burned, but you can still feel the heat from a distance. The shape took on the appearance of a demonic face and head and was looking directly at me. The snarled words I heard were, "Now you see what I really look like." Of course, I did feel a little fear, but mostly I felt puzzled. Who the heck was this and why was he talking to me? It seemed as though there should be something familiar about this being, but I couldn't figure it out.
Shortly after hearing those words, I watched the entire image begin to dissolve until it was gone completely. I laid there thinking about it. I never felt that I was in any danger, as the whole image seemed to be just that - an image, not anything that could touch me. Maybe it was hoping to intimidate me, but it seemed to be essentially powerless. As I said, I felt safe as long as I didn't move. After a little while, I went back to sleep. Later that morning, while listening to the news, I was stunned to hear that after more than ten years, Ted Bundy had finally been executed overnight. Now, it seemed apparent who it was in my room during the night, but I suppose I'll never know why.
