They Know Before We Do

I was either seven or eight years of age, and a very ill child due to kidney disease resulting in extremly highblood pressure. At the time, they really didn't know much about kidney problems, especialy in kids. So I was, needless to say, a Guinna pig for a lot of new meds for high blood pressure and kidney disease.

I had been very sick for quite some time and was at death's door. I remember seeing what seemed like to me to be a male figure surrounded by a halo-like light around his body. No face, only the figure. But what I remember so clearly to this day, some 26 years later, was our conversation.

When he came to me and asked me if I was ready to go, even as a child I knew that if I left with him I would not return. I couldn't go, even though he told me he wouldn't hurt me and I knew without a doubt that what he said was true. But I, in turn, asked him who would take care of my mommy. At that point, even though I could not see it, I felt his smile and he was gone.

With my bad health, I have had many times I should have died and did not. Now my mom is in poor health, and when she has her bad days, I'm always making sure she is taken care of to the best of my ability.
