Ghostly Child
by Leanne

I live in England and this insident occured when I was in my last year of junior school, also known as year six. Every year, some teachers would take year six away on a trip somewhere for a week. That year we went to Whitby. Name familiar? Well, if you've ever read Dracula, then it should be. The teachers got us hyped up on the Dracula story and the boys used it to their advantage, pulling vamire-theamed pranks for the whole week.

We stayed in a bed and breakfast quite close to the beach. If I stuck my head out the window I could hear the sea, and at night we could see Whitby Abby all lit up from our bedroom windows. A group of seven other girls and I were cramed into a horrible room. It was a dump. The first thing we noticed was that it was always cold, even when the heating was on. The week went on and a crack mysteriouly appeared in the bedroom window. It just apeared, out of nowhere and it got bigger. There was nothing to make it get bigger, we were too scared to to touch it, but it spread over the whole window. I know that doesn't sound scary. The scary part happened on the Thursday.

We were all snug in our beds when something woke me up. I wasn't sure what it was. It did cross my mind that the window had broken or that the boys were playing another prank, or that maybe one of the teachers was checking up on us. Then I felt air on the back of my neck, like somebody blowing on it. The problem was my neck was facing the wall. Then somebody tugged on the bottom of my quilt, pulling it down.

There was a tiny little girl at the end of my bed, grinning and giggleing like it was all just a game. She must have been at least four years old, with light brown hair and a face full of freckles. I pulled the quilt back up and told her to go away. I did try to get back to sleep, but she kept giggleing and pulling at the quilt. For a little kiddie, she was quite strong. Then I did start to get scared. Not only was this cubby little tot stronger than me, but I was on the top bunk. And she was nowhere near the ladder. She was too tiny to have climbed up and I have no idea how she got there. What's more, when I woke Ann (the girl on the bottom bunk), she said there was nothing there. And there wasn't.

So I went back to sleep, I figured the kid had got fed up and wandered off, back to her own room. The following morning, I told the other girls in the room what had happened. Ann, who basicly acted like our mother for the whole trip, got angry that somebody couldn't keep their daughter under control. At breakfast, she asked our landlady tons of questions. It turns out our school were the only ones staying in the bed and breakfast; we'd booked every room and there were no spare rooms left. And the landlady had no children or grandchildren of her own. So the creepy little girl remained a mystery... and we didn't get any sleep for the rest of the week.
