The Cold
Spirit
by Seth Kidd
To understand this story you will need some background info on the place and, I guess, me. About seven years ago, my aunt and uncle moved into a nice three-bedroom house by the mountains here in Utah. Before they moved into it, though, they needed to do some painting and remodeling. I had the fortune of being their help! My cousin and I would go over on the weekends and spend the weekend in the house. We would paint and work on the plumbing and electrical.
That's when I started to notice things. I have always beleived in the paranormal since I was a very young child. In that house odd things would happen. One time my cousin went to the bathroom, and he was in there for four hours. When he came out, I thanked him for letting me do all the work. He asked me what I meant and I told him and showed him how long he had been in there. He freaked out at realizing he wouldn't remember what had happened the whole time he was in there.
We would constantly see things in the mirrors and hear people walking upstairs when we were in the basement.
Jump forward to two years ago. I moved in with my uncle and aunt due to some problems I was having. When I moved in, the room I was going to stay in was being used for storage and was not ready yet. So I was to sleep in the family room downstairs on the couch. I had no problem with this because it beat the streets. The couch downstairs sits directly in front of the stairs. So when you are laying or sitting on the couch you can see to the top of the stairs.
The first night I was there, I laid down to go to sleep. I had a hard time sleeping, partly because I sometimes I get insomnia real bad, and partly because I have a hard time sleeping in new places. It was probably two or three in the morning, and I heard footsteps upstairs walking towards the stairs. I could hear them walking and could tell that they came from my uncle and aunt's room. I assumed my uncle was going to the kitchen for something (which was right to the left of the stairs), but when the footsteps passed in front of the stairs, there was no one there and they stopped right at the top where I would be able to see the person. It felt like someone was staring at me - coldly staring at me. I turned my back to the stairs and I heard footsteps start to go down the stairs. When I turned to look, there was no one there. I turned the lamp on and stayed up all night just watching TV. But I felt like someone was watching me all night.
The next day I asked my aunt about it and she said they had never had any problems like that. This happened for two nights more. I had been three nights without sleep. I was starting to get frustrated. So this night I was determined to sleep. I lay down with the lamp on and started to doze off. At one point I fell asleep for what seemed like only a moment and I heard a "click." I jolted up and realized the lamp had been turned off. I turned it on and looked up the stairs and saw a man looking at me! I freaked out and ran into my cousin's room, who was not to pleased to be woken up. I told her what happend and she told to me to sleep on the floor in her room.
The next night I refused to sleep and I just lay there listening. Then I heard from my cousin's room, she was screaming for me. I ran to her room, and she said she saw a man standing in her doorway. That night I sat in the hallway in front of her room all night. The next night I made a bed in front of the TV and away from the stairs. Finally, I did not feel anyone watching me and I fell asleep. But soon I was been shaken awake. I slightly woke up and then just shrugged it off and went back to sleep. Then someone violently shook me and pushed me off the cushions I was using for a bed. I was wide awake by now and looked around. There was no one there. Then I heard someone run down the hallway in the basement and the bathroom door closed.
The next morning, there was an odor in the house that no one could pin. I was fed up and tired and started to get frightened. My uncle, being religious, blessed the house with the whole family present. I am not religious, but it worked for awhile. Although when I did move into my room, I often sensed someone was in my room with me. And I have to have doors shut, and often I would wake up in the morning or the middle of the night to my door opening on its own. I would get up and shut it. Whatever was opening my door seems to follow me everywhere. No matter where I have lived since then, my bedroom doors always randomly open in the middle of the night.
I have encountered spirits before, but never so cold a spirit.
