September
11 Premonition
by Joseph
I had an unusual experience on September 10, 2001 which has led me to become interested in the phenomenon of premonitions. At the time, I was a student preparing for my Bar Admission Course which qualified me to become a lawyer in Ontario. I was staying from September to December at my grandmother's house, which was near to where I attended classes. My grandfather had passed away the previous year and she was living alone.
My cousin and I had frequently stayed
in the house as children, visiting our grandparents. The home itself had been
bought by my grandfather's parents when they returned to the area from Saskatchewan.
Both my great grandparents had died in the house and my grandfather had lived
there for about 80 years, with the exception of the years he was in Europe during
WWII.
On September 10, 2001 I went to bed early after preparing for a test the next
morning. I had fallen into a fairly deep sleep when I felt the sensation of
being in motion. I went into a different sort of consciousness where I could
"see," as clearly as if I was watching it, an airplane flying through
the air. I could see people in the windows of the plane and felt a sensation
of traveling at a very high speed. Suddenly, the plane plunged headlong toward
the earth. I gasped and awoke as it burst into flames and crashed into the ground.
I was very shaken after this, fearing for the lives of those on board. It was
a very odd and moving experience which I would probably still remember even
if nothing had happened the next day.
I traveled to school the next morning without listening to the radio or having
any news contact. At school while we were waiting to be tested on our cross-examination
skills one of the other students asked if we had heard that on airplane had
crashed into the World Trade Centre and another into the Pentagon. [And another
into the ground in Pennsylvania.] I remarked that that was strange as I had
had a very vivid dream last night about a plane crashing. The other student
agreed that that was strange.
I have not flown since I went on vacation with my wife to San Francisco in March
2001. I can think of no "rational" reason why I would have had this
extraordinary lucid dream that particular night. It has caused me to question
my agnostic, rationalistic belief system and made me realize that there are
many things which are beyond our understanding.
